Sickness bug has hit and I am terrified!!

My partner started vomiting yesterday, and now my 2 year old has vomited this morning and now we are all going to get sick and miss out on everything again and I'm panicking big time. I don't deal well with sick as it is and I have been disinfecting everything but obviously it's not working because the 2 year old has it now. I don't even know what the point of this is but I am freaking out and can't breathe because I know we are all about to get ill and miss out on everything for the 3rd year running.

I didn't get the sick bug when my kids had it

So you might be okay 👍🏻

Just keep the fresh air rolling in and put everything on a very hot wash

OP, I think being terrified is a bit pointless (are you an emetophobe?) because it's probably going to happen anyway. The best thing you can do is make sure you have some fresh food and lots of liquids and tempting things in, keep the windows open and ride it out.

But why will it make you miss out on everything? Sickness bugs usually pass in a couple of days. Smile

OP, in kindness, you need to pull yourself together. My son had a vomiting bug last week. It was over in less than 24 hours. He bounced back really quickly and we didn't catch it. Sickness bugs are brutal but they're over and done with pretty swiftly. This isn't going to wipe out your Christmas.

I do have emetophobia I've been getting myself into a bit of a state this morning disinfecting everything. I never know what's best to do when we get sick - my 2 year old is still breastfeeding and I'm worried that might be making her worse 🤦‍♀️. It just feels like terrible timing we had so much planned this week.

I have to say I hate tummy bugs, they are the absolute worst. However, they're usually fast and furious. We had both flu and noro this week in 2019, I'll never forget it. But by Christmas we were all well and enjoyed ourselves.

MindyStClaire · 14/12/2021 09:17

Sorry, my post isn't clear - the tummy bug was done and dusted within a couple of days, then a bit longer for the fatigue etc for the flu and then all a distant memory after that. It's not fun, but it'll be a miserable couple of days and then all better.

I don;t get why everyone assumes the entire family will get hit. Usually it is just the kids in my family...and as they get older, not even all of them get it. Do not fret. We have 3 kids ranging from 2-10 years old. In 10 years I caught one sickness bug (and not even sure if it was from my daughter as she was not sick!). My husband has never caught a sickness bug from the kids (knock wood!). My ds had a sickness bug in august, vomitted 5 times. My two year old caught it days later, vomitted once...that was it. The eldest and the rest of us did not catch.

I am emetaphobe, so I totally get your fear. My fear is that all the kids will get it...but my DH and me never have (knock wood!). I do make sure to wipe down surfaces....and bleach the bathroom etc.

Mamabear12 · 14/12/2021 10:51

Forgot to mention that we have had au pairs helping us when the kids have been sick with sick bugs and they also never caught it. knock wood again! But I guess some people might be more prone to it...but we have had several au pairs and they never caught.

KeveinKola, I feel your pain...my way of coping with my huge fear of vomit (not easy with kids!) is I create what we call the panic station lol. Its basically a cot mattress we put on the bathroom floor and whoever is sick my stay in the bathroom the entire time so they make it to toilet on time etc. My kids actually like this and my ds once joked "I dont mind getting sick because I get treated like a king." They get to watch ipad and I make it all cozy. The bathroom is quite big though (we even managed to put a small desk inside so it doubles as an office during lockdown time). But anyway, you can do the same in a small space. But with a two year old, hard to control as they do not know when they vomit and will not listen. But by 3 they understand more so it does get easier. Good luck!

My granddaughters had that bug when they were here the other week. I didn't get it, nor did my husband, son, the mother of the girls, or their older sister.

They vomited twice each then were fine the next day

Akire · 14/12/2021 11:48

Bugs especially for adults pass in 24h no one’s going be in bed for Xmas. The point of a bug is to eliminate it as fast as possible out of the body it’s just shame the way it does it. Hang in there keep hand washing and wiping areas and hope for best.

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 11:54

Sickness bugs don't usually last more than 48 hours so you won't miss everything.

Why did you miss Christmas 2019?

KevinTheKoala · 14/12/2021 13:29

My daughters both had a severe respiratory virus and then we all got norovirus in 2019 which meant my eldest missed her Christmas parties and activities that year. The timing of this means that if my eldest gets sick tomorrow she will miss her school Christmas party and jumper day the next day, and if me or her get sick tomorrow/the day after we will miss the Christmas play we booked months ago - I know that they're not majorly important in the grande scheme of things but I just feel like my eldest especially has missed so much the last few years and that on top of being scared of being sick is making everything feel worse.
