Recovering from the flu - When is it OK to go back to work?

Hi all,

I've been suffering from the Flu since Wednesday. I noticed I had 'cold' like symptoms on Monday and Tuesday, feeling under the weather, but could still work.

However on Wednesday morning I woke up in immense pain, high temperature, bed was hot, and had aches and pains everywhere, I was in agony just going to the toilet or going down the stairs. even my eyelids were sore just blinking.

I've spent the last five days in bed nearly the whole time, just trying to sleep through the pain. I did manage to get a PCR test done and came back negative so assume its flu.

As of day 6 now, I feel somewhat better, I can walk around and I'm not in absolute agony.

The problem is I work in a food factory, there is no set finishing time (2:30pm start till whenever the work is done, can be as early as 10pm but recently its been nearer 2am). We are short of workers currently and the floor is struggling, so feel an urge to want to help out. My job isn't as physically demanding as some of the other jobs (recording temperatures of food products before they are packed)

I have 4 days annual leave this week starting on Tuesday, so Monday is the only day I have to work which is why I'm thinking about going in.

The only risk is theres a chance I may have to go home (say around 6pm after the first teabreak if my illness picks up) and as I'm still carrying symptoms of the flu I will have to ask to socially distance from people and mask up at all times.

Does this sound dodgy? Shall I try to go in or wait till next Monday?

Don't go in. You need time to fully recover or you will put yourself back & feel worse for longer.
