Voice pain and problems after talking/concert

Hello!
I hope this will make sense. I was at a concert and seen people I know prior to the band playing. Of course lots of chat, but right away when I was trying to talk to them through noise as everyone else was also doing the same. I felt my voice, but continued through the night having to raise it higher than normal and of course more talking throughout the night. I knew right away within minutes that my voice was like it couldn’t talk louder. It was frustrating. Now Sunday and I’m noticing my throat feels scratchy, but whenever I talk my voice sounds like I have some infection and like I’ve smoked all my life or that I’m Adele. It’s freaked me out as voice just doesn’t sound right, and its sore to talk. Like my voice is saying don’t push it with even a few words.
I cannot see a GP, but does anyone know what’s likely going on? And will my voice ever be normal again. Cause right now :(

I get this and have done for years. In fact on one occasion I think raising my voice did actually lead to a throat infection.

Following in case anyone can shed any light on it.

@INeedNewShoes Does your voice return back to normal and you can have pain free usual voice days or is it pretty much always struggle? Its frustrating already :(

Every time I get a cold I will be very hoarse for a few days.

Following the pub evenings / noisy/long work events where I’ve had to spend a few hours talking over noise I tend to lose my voice almost completely and it’ll gradually come back to normal over a couple of weeks, if I don’t push it!

It’s really important to rest your voice when it gets like this, which means no shouting, singing and definitely no whispering (latter places greatest strain on vocal chords).

The issue I’ve had on the worst occasions is that my throat gets so inflamed that it turns into a very sore throat complete with fever etc.

My voice is quite sensitive all winter (probably not helped by central heating) but in summer months it can be normal for weeks on end.

It’s frustrating. I find parenting very difficult when I lose my voice because you lose command and the ability to vary tone of voice for emphasis, to cajole, to express firm instructions etc. dealing with a tantrumming toddler when I’ve lost my voice sticks out as being a parenting low!

How long ago was the concert?
And yes .... I've had similar and lost my voice. Sometimes takes a week to get it back properly.

@INeedNewShoes This gives me hope, And oh god the whispering. I’m glad you said as that’s what I’m doing now and sgain since Friday! It’s so frustrating still as rely on voice so much but I’ll definitely reduce!!
Do you get use to it?

I'd give it a week or so before getting concerned. Don't use it and look after it.

lana29 · 13/12/2021 10:15

@oviraptor21 thank you, hoping to god after a week it will be better!

I had that the first few tomes after giving a lecture, i.e. talking for more ghan half an hour.

a couple of sessions with a voice coach sorted it out. a few exercises on breathing and voice projection.
plus keeping neck and chest warm. gardling with chamomile tea.
