Severe back pain - gallstones?

Long story short since I had my LO I have been getting episodes of severe back pain that comes on out of nowhere.

I wake up early mornjng(2/3am) with this pain, cannot get comfortable at all so have to get up and move around. It's in my mid to upper back. No abdominal pain. I then end up vomiting several times. Then 5-6 hours later it goes away and then I can be fine from anywhere from a day to 6 weeks before it happens again!

It often seems to happen after having fatty foods as well which is what made me think gallstones.

I have seen a GP and am waiting for a referall, just wondered if anyone had had the same with only back pain and no abdominal pain?

It does sound very similar to when I had gallstones - funnily enough after I had a baby too! Every time I ate a heavy fatty meal. No abdominal pain, but sometimes a stabbing through the back almost through to my chest. Really horrible. Hope you get your referral soon!

The NHS consultant I went to see said I had to live with it. Thankfully I had private healthcare, and had my gall bladder out the following week. Keyhole surgery, day case, all home and tucked up the same day. It was wonderful not to feel that pain again!

Yes, could be gallstones. You might need to be referred for an ultrasound scan to check, but depending on severity and frequency of symptoms, they may suggest trying to manage attacks with a very low fat diet. This does work well for some people.

If you need to have it removed, the waiting list is a bit of a postcode lottery, but even before covid it was around 8-10 months where I live.

Sound like it to me! I never had stomach pain, it was all in my chest and shoulder.

Sounds exactly like the symptoms I had when I had gallstones after having my son!

Would definitely get it checked out - life has been 100% better since having my gallbladder removed!

Thanks all! Yes am waiting for a referral for an ultrasound so hopefully at least then I'll know for sure

Very much sounds like it.
While you wait for your referral try peppermint tea or peppermint oil capsules, and apple cider vinegar. I've got gallstones and gallbladder sludge and while I wait to have your bugger out I'm managing it with these. Made a huge difference.
Good luck!
