Had an abdominal ultrasound 4 weeks ago.. worried

Had an ultrasound last year because of suspected gallstones. Radiographer said I had sludge, showed me the scan, and GP said to see how things went. Symptoms are 'baby's foot' feeling under the right rib but occasionally both sides, noisy tummy, but otherwise nothing major.

I had a flare up during October and was referred for another ultrasound in November to see if I had more sludge/bigger stones. This time the radiographer didn't say anything other than 'And you were told you had gallstones? Who told you that?' I said the previous radiographer had shown me them and it was confirmed by GP. I asked why but he juts continued the scan and when he finished he said results would take about a week.

It's been 4 weeks now and I've called the GP every week only to be told my results weren't ready yet. Today I called and was told the GP had received my results this morning but wanted to discuss them with the radiographer before speaking to me about them. I asked why but the receptionist didn't know.

I'm terrified. I've jumped to the worst possible conclusion and now I've got to wait for the GP to get in touch - no idea when that will be but they're closed til Monday now - after already waiting 4 weeks. Symptoms are no different to the ones I had last year, just a flare up, so now I'm wondering why did this radiographer react differently to the first one, and why does my GP need to discuss my results with them? Just really worried now!

Really is SO shit. A good idea to get an appointment I think - surely they'll have to tell you then.

Any way you can just get the radiographers report? At this rate, it might be quicker!

I don’t think that’s possible.

WilsonMilson · 15/12/2021 21:45

@PAFMO I’m putting off taking them until after Christmas - I couldn’t face feeling any worse than I already do before I get Christmas past.

Well I've made a complaint against the hospital for taking 4 weeks to return my results to the GP after saying it would only take a week, and a complaint about the GP essentially withholding my results for a further week after that and still no sign of them speaking to me! It won't do any good but writing the emails was cathartic.

I'm calling at 8am to ask for an appointment and will basically demand to know what's going on because this is getting silly now.

I think that's a good idea. Good luck! Flowers

@WilsonMilson

I think yours is a good idea too- my first lot didn't work, so I got the joy of doing it twice Confused

Morning all, finally heard back and the gall sludge is now an actual gallstone, which is why it's been causing more problems. I also have a 5mm 'spot' on my liver called a haemangioma which is a swelling of blood vessels. No further action until a follow up to discuss the gallstone in the new year, but she also assured me it's nothing to worry about. Phew!!

Thanks all for keeping me company :)

Glad to hear it, OP although it's appalling that they've let you sit and worry about it for so long. Hope it's put your mind at rest.

I had an ultrasound as part of imaging before surgery only to find that I no longer had the issue I needed surgery for. I assumed it was worse but actually was far better than hoped for.

GingerbreadandJellytots · 17/12/2021 13:06

Seen your reply, sorry! Really glad it was nothing more serious. Apparently gallstones are really painful though, I feel for you

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 18/12/2021 09:28

@PaulRuddsWife thanks, oh it definitely has! Not impressed with how long it took to tell me the results but there you go.

@GingerbreadandJellytots good that you didn't need surgery! Pain is almost constant and nothing really eases it but it's a 5/10 at the minute which isn't nice but it's manageable. Let's hope it stays that way!
