Anyone else waiting for an appt to come through under the two week wait? NHS is apparently one stop shop everything and private (through work) isn't, just consultant appt and scan. Anyone have any experience?

In my local clinic, you see the consultant first who may do an examination. Then you get sent off and have a mammogram and possibly an ultrasound as well. Then you see the consultant again, with the results.

There can be a lot of hanging around, so take a book and a drink. Also, wear clothes that you can disrobe and put back on easily.

If you want a chaperone, they will offer it, or there will be one automatically.

Hope you’re okay.

The treatment from my local nhs clinic is absolutely brilliant.

I went Monday before last and it was fab. I’d been referred by my gp the previous Tuesday. Saw consultant, had mammogram then scan and given all clear in 3 hours. I called on the Friday and said I could be totally flexible and come at short notice if there was a cancellation - there was.

Ok so just best to take the soonest appt? Bricking it!

Did this a few months ago saw consultant, then tests then back to consultant. All very much geared to relaxing you. Easy disrobing clothes, my kindle and a bottle of water saw me through. The consultant and nurses were lovely

Had this last week due to a lump seen during a standard mammogram.

I couldnt fault the service. They try and do as many tests and scans at the appointment and realise that people wont want to go back and forth. The nurse told me that even if they found something and needed to send a sample away they often knew what it could be and would brief me.

They know that we are ultra nervous. I went on my own as did the other brave women in the waiting room. Took about 2.5 hours in total and all clear but I know exactly what you are feeling. Grab the first appointment - I have private medical insurance and they wouldnt have been as quick as the NHS (in this case - its because there is the c word that things move very quickly). I even called them and said if they had a cancellation to let me know and I would drop everything to go.

Thanks everyone, so far the first appt is private as haven't heard from the nhs yet but could call tmw and see whether there are any cancellations. My GP appt was today

As in I can have a private appt on Monday

I went private for this a couple of weeks ago - my local nhs breast clinic are only doing appointments at the very end of the 2ww and don’t let you know till very late… I made sure before I went that the private was a similar service - In for mammogram, app with consultant & ultrasound and biopsies done by her there and then. I was out the door in an hour. Totally understand the fear - but the vast majority turn out not to be anything terrible so hold onto that.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 09/12/2021 19:52

Thank you, unfortunately the biopsies at the private clinic are all done at another appt and no one is registered with my insurer at the nhs hospital. That is my worry.

I was told max three hours, the earlier your appointment the quicker you may get through and if they don’t see anything to worry about it won’t take so long or I should say something to look at in more depth! I took my 3 month old baby and it went very smoothly!

Blinkingbatshit · 09/12/2021 20:21

I did have to call round a couple of private hospitals in my vague locality to find one that did the ‘all in one’ service. Both a Spire and a Nuffield had breast surgeons/consultants that offered the service.

Franklin12 · 09/12/2021 21:30

Call the NHS tomorrow would be my suggestion and see what is what. The Receptionist was very kind to me. They will have a set time to do these appointments. Standard mammograms are done on a separate day. They might be able to let you know how long you are likely to have to wait.

As soon as I got my recall letter if they had said that they had an appointment within a hour I would have got my coat!
