Have a hug,milge.

I can relate to what you are going through, from recent experience xx

He is doing the right thing getting it checked out xxxxxx

Is he a smoker??

My dp was recently misdiagnosed with lung cancer metastases (!!!!EEEEKK!!!!) turned out the "shadows" on his CXR and ct scan were fungal in origin, and curable.(secondary to an autoimmune thingy that caused him to cough up blood and allsorts of crap.)

He had had a nasty persistent dry cough but was also a smoker so it was difficult to distinguish the smokers cough from the infection cough IYKWIM.

Hopefully it will be nothing, and you can enjoy a lovely Christmas xxxxx

Hi ChristmstimeMILGEstoeandwine - my dh had persistent chest infections 2 years ago. I understand what you are going through. His Dr seemed to use each xray (3 in all) as a guide - each time the shadow showed the infection which got smaller with each course of antibiotics but not completely clear, so the doc upped the strength of the antibiotics until it disappeared. This was over 7 months. I think in hindsight he was very run down and needed complete rest which is impossible with 3 children and 2 jobs! Another thought which we found out recently is DH teaches and someone that talks excessively (maybe due to profession) tends to be a 'mouth breather' which (I think I remember this correctly) are more liable to infections as the nose filters out some potential infections before they move onto the chest. My DS2 has hypermobility and hypotonia which gives him weak/relaxed muscles including his jaw so consequently he is also a mouth breather and gets every cough and cold going.
All is well now.
Great that you are going private - will you get the results tonight?

He has just phoned! Had chest xray, which showed shadows, but not cancer, just infections. He also talks for a living and is overweight which Dr said was a bad combination for chest problems. DR thinks it is a combination of infections, which respond partially to anti b's and then get worse, acid reflux which makes him cough when he changes position and asthma( aggravated by brufen type cold remedies he has been taking [ angry].
He has to go back in 3 weeks for more exrays, after 3 weeks of different antibiotics, an alcohol and dairy free Christmas, and acid reflux tablets.
I couldn't have coped with waiting till June for this - good use of £125 plus Xray fees.

another thought is that I prop my ds2 with lots of pillows at night so he is almost sitting up so his mouth has to close, he finds it so hard with me nagging all the time to breathe through his nose - DH is just the same, I feel like tying big swathes of fabric around their chins and adding a little bow on top, or I wonder if there is a way to wire the jaw slightly so it closes naturally? When I try to breathe through the mouth it's much harder work...
No alcohol and dairy I use to suffer with hayfever and was told to avoid dairy, I bought all the rice/soya milk, yogurt, butter and I ahem lasted 2 days.
Has he got allergies? The reason I ask is that after recommendation I bought medinose which has finally done the trick after years of misery. I have also read recently about a 'saltpipe' which you inhale and the salt crystals are suppose to help clear the infection - hence the idea of healthy sea air
you must be so relieved
