Trapped nerve

5 replies

This time last year I had a trapped nerve in my neck which got so bad I couldn't sleep , ended up on codeine and amitriptyline and a brief visit to physio at the hospital. Took a few months to ease off

And now it's back again. Pain is in my shoulder blade and down my arm . Been getting progressively worse for about a month . I just kept hoping it would go away but I think I need to contact the gp again
Is there anything I can do to stop this happening over and over again. I have no idea what sets it off in the first place . Or any other advice beyond the for-mentioned medicine plus exercises which don't seem to help much

What strength codeine are you on?

Does your job cause it maybe?

fedup078 · 04/12/2021 19:00

@myothercarisaskoda I'm not
I can't remember which dose it was last time
I think probably sitting at a desk probably is the route cause but when this first happened last year I hadn't been at work for nearly a year

Do you sleep with a lot of pillows? That's caused ongoing issues for me, having too many. Your neck needs to be in line with your back when you sleep. Just a thought?

No I'm not one for lots of pillows
All I read says you need to rest but I'm a single mother so no chance of that

Go back to your GP to see if they can get to the bottom of it, see what strength codeine you're on. When I had problems with my back I was on 30mg, apparently that's quite high. It was fantastic for the pain.
