Which pill for heavy periods?

Please help! I’m 45, have fibroids and and am really struggling with my heavy periods. I pass huge clots and have to change 3 or 4 times a night for the first three days. Work is tricky as I have leaked through after 45 mins of wearing a super plus tampon. I don’t want the coil and am thinking of trying the pill. Which is best?

TIA x

I tried Cerelle and Noriday - POP did not agree with me.

So at the ripe old age of mid 40s am going back on the combined pill.

Oh gosh - it’s a minefield isn’t it!! I have found that blood flow is much lower even a few days in so we shall see. Had some cracking he’s he’s but I have been on a few Xmas nights out so could be why x

@Twizbe

I will just add that the tranxamic acid does have side effects. It makes me feel a bit sick and very sleepy so I only take it at night time. Ibuprofen helps a bit in the day to slow some of the flow.

Without anything though I'd regularly wake up in a pool of blood.

Interesting. I’ve been lucky to have pretty much no side effects. It has made a massive, massive difference to how heavy my periods are. Pretty sure mine aren’t fibroid related as I’ve had shocking periods since I’ve been a teenager.

Before taking tranexamic acid I’d feel wobbly for one or two days every period due to blood loss. My iron was low and my hair was falling out.

I’d guess my periods are now at last 50% lighter. Wish I’d tried it years ago to be honest.

Another vote for the mini pill, I had on/off bleeding for 4weeks or so which was annoying as couldn’t predict it but it was light and I’ve now been on it for 4months and no bleeding whatsoever.
No weight gain so far

Thank is everyone. POP did not work out well for me - I just constantly bled!

been to the dr again today and have been prescribed Elione (also known as Yaz). It’s a combined pill. I’m hoping the oestrogen will help with the hellish peri menopausal symptoms I’m getting.

has anyone had any luck using this pill to stop heavy periods and treat hot flushes, joint pain etc? Feeling desperate 😢
