Hi mumsnetters ,just wondered does anyone manage to sleep sitting up?
For a medical reason to have been advised my head needs to be raised when I sleep .
I have arranged lots of pillows to help but just can not sleep like that .
Any advice ? Anyone managed this ?

Those V-shaped pillows are quite good, you can angle them on a couple of pillows and the side support makes it more comfortable.

A raised head is easier than sleeping sitting up but if you aren't careful you get neck problems.
I was also advised to sleep with my head raised this because of a lung condition. One thing that helped was to raise the head of the bed - I used a pile of books. I also put a wedge under the mattress.

When I had surgery for breast cancer I had to sleep sitting up for a few nights and it's very difficult because you slide down. A bed with a footboard helps.
Ultimately a bed which can raised your head and lift your knees like a hospital bed is the best solution if it's a long term thing.

I was in hospital with covid (double jabbed but immunosuppressed) and some of the more seriously ill patients had to "sleep" sitting up. Even with a hospital bed it was uncomfortable for them.

I had to sleep sitting up with a post Covid cough. Every time I laid down I started coughing and I didn't want to wake DH so I can down stairs and made a nest in the corner of the sofa using the back cushions to prop me up. I'm not sure how Is do it in bed though

Agree with pp that if it’s long term a moveable bed is the only good solution. Sympathies as I’ve had to do this after a surgery and to be honest I didn’t get much sleep when I left hospital. More just dozed and woke up uncomfortable.

I'm a life long front sleeper.
I had an operation in July and have had to sleep propped up on my back ever since. The only way I manage is with a wedge pillow and one of those flight pillow things and actually I sleep very well like that now it just takes a bit of getting used to.

These are what I use - 5 months on and both hold their shape well
