Did too much standing on concrete in the cold yesterday - what will help?

Pain in my feet, knees, hips and shoulders (sounds like a song!)

I'll get innersoles and extra flooring for next time but what will help now, I can barely stand

I have cfs/fm/hypermobility and I'm just getting over covid, I can just "take painkillers" but that isn't ideal

Epsom salt bath?
Intermittent rest & gentle movement.
I wouldn’t necessarily take a painkiller but an anti inflammatory if you’re able to, particularly before bed.
Gentle warm massage above & below each joint?
I go for full on hot water bottles in as many places as possible, but that may not be good for you (similarly, my bath is as hot as it can be). To be honest, it’s probably not good for me either lol.
Hot drinks as well. And your comfiest clothes and shoes.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/11/2021 13:29

Would an Epsom salt/magnesium salt bath help? It's supposed to help with sore muscles and reduces swelling, and a warm bath would probably help a little just by itself.

Pantah630 · 29/11/2021 13:30

A nice warm, not hot to start with, bath helps with the bone aching chill. I ride bikes all year round so this is a regular occurrence once the weather sets in.

You can get heated insoles now, not cheap but are supposed to be very good.

KatyMac · 29/11/2021 13:47

I went straight in the bath last night but forgot the magnesium salts!

Might do that now it should help

DH brought wheatbags to 'wear' in the car on the way home but I like the sound of heated insoles

I am seriously considering giving up my job as I really struggle with this

Oh. If it’s your work, I would also consider taping your joints which can help stop you over extending. Use that sports tape stuff. Try to shift your position regularly if able. A small box to put an alternate foot up on might help. Also instability foootwear might help. Or make everything much worse.
Layer thermal leggings under jeans, you can get pocket hand warmers which you could put in your pockets. Or tape to your leggings.

Have you got a cricket ball/lacrosse ball or even a tennis ball? Rolling it underneath your feet will help release some of the tension. It will feel “crackly” or “knotty”, but shouldn’t cause discomfort.

KatyMac · 29/11/2021 15:38

Should I try the ball when I am actually working or afterwards?

I enjoy the making part of my job but not the selling, its better but not fun in summer but yesterday was brutal!

KatyMac · 29/11/2021 15:39

Taping? Hadn't considered that...

Porridgeislife · 29/11/2021 15:44

Afterwards, apologies for not making that clear. I roll it under my feet sitting at the table or you could try whilst you’re on the sofa.

For me it really does stop the soreness.

goose1964 · 01/12/2021 15:59

For future occasions get some thick soled shoes. I have skechers d's live a and they act as protection from cold surfaces.

Bonbon21 · 01/12/2021 16:03

Leg warmers pulled up from ankle to knee .. like socks.. and long wristwarmers/ fingerless gloves..tucked over your jumper under your coat/jacket

TheLongRider · 01/12/2021 20:20

If you can get an anti-fatigue mat that would be great. Amazon stock them.

KatyMac · 02/12/2021 23:42

I was layered up but I'll think more carefully next time

Found some doc martens to borrow

I have rubber camping mats are they any good?

SisterAgatha · 02/12/2021 23:43

Sounds mad but extra vit d helps my aches and pains

Pucarbuile · 02/12/2021 23:51

Can you bring a folding chair so you can sit when there's a lull?

MusicTeacherSussex · 02/12/2021 23:55

You poor thing. I'm hyper mobile and get joint signs from cold and standing. I find ibuprofen lysine works best and I take it before such events, then hot bath with CBD salts after. And a glass of red Blush

Etinoxaurus · 03/12/2021 00:02

Stand in a cardboard box on folded up camping or yoga mats. Don’t walk away forgetting about the box though and faceplant.

Etinoxaurus · 03/12/2021 00:04

Also heat treatment, hot water bottles and wheaties really do work. I ‘wear’ one to bed and took a break on the heat of summer- sharp pain and stiffness the following day.

OhLordyWhatNow · 03/12/2021 00:35

Snow boots have insulated soles and Sorel are good.

Keep your feet warm and hopefully you should be able to prevent the aches of being cold to your bones.

Giggorata · 03/12/2021 03:00

I would buy some of the heated socks, gloves, vests and longjohns that motor bike riders have.

KatyMac · 04/12/2021 22:48

Thanks everyone - I cancelled work this weekend as I'm feeling so rough

I have to decide about next weekend now!

Aren't DrMartens very stiff but mould to the wearers foot ? Worried might not be good to borrow some ..

Brew + Flowers hope you feel better soon .

randomsabreuse · 05/12/2021 18:39

Magnesium gel is good for sore muscles - same principle as Epsom Salts but doesn't need the bath
