It's hard enough trying to get dd3 to eat at the best of times. She started to feel ill on Wed with what I thought was a cold (runny nose & sneezing) but has also been having tummy pains. Had a raging temp on Thurs so I gave her calpol & a wee drink after to take the taste away - 10 mins later it came back up again. It's the first time she's been properly sick & she panicked a bit even tho' I made sure to stay calm & act like it was nothing out of the ordinary

She ate nothing at all Fri & Sat (is still having pains but I suspect that now it's more likely caused by the fact that she's starving). This morning she ate a yogurt & then a little choc bar that her grandad sneaked her when he came in but that's it. At every mention of food she gets practically hysterical - I just made her a picture plate out of a couple of rice cakes, cheese stick & raisins (usually all her favourite snacks) & she started tantrumming again.

It's her toddlers party tomorrow - I don't think she's still ill as such (was only sick once due to her meds & drink curdling her stomach) so I don't know what to do. She eats well at toddlers usually so wonder if I should take her along & see if the party food will rekindle what little interest in food she has.

I really need advice here as I don't want to risk taking a sick child to a toddler group but also I run the group & am key-holder so if I don't go no-one gets in & bang goes the party as there's not really anyone else who can open up etc.

Help!

Sounds like she's working her way into eating again and doesn't like the idea of full meals. I would just be led by what she decides she wants to eat for the time being. If that means nothing or not a lot for now then I wouldn't worry. By tomorrow she might eat everything...or nothing.

Thanks juuule - it's juat really worrying as she'll say she's hungry but when she tries to put the food in her mouth (she did try a raisin) she starts howling.

Oh god I hope she's not starting some sort of phobia!

Do you think I should take her to the party tomorrow? I honestly don't think she's contagious or anything.

Hi! Sorry things are so difficult at the moment.

I would try to stay away from dairy products for the next couple of days as milk/yoghurt can be difficult to digest after a stomach upset and can sometimes make things worse. Just try to offer a small snacks frequently -just fairly bland food like dry toast with jam and as juuule says, be guided by her.

The most important thing is to make sure she is drinking plently of fluids so remember to offer drinks frequenly too. Squash or flat lemonade are good as they contain lots of sugar.

Try not to worry about the not eating- it will come right when she is ready. Good luck

If she ate the chocolate and yoghurt off her grandad then she's coming round imo. If she feels well in herself, I'd take her to the party tomorrow and just let her pick and choose what she wants to eat. See how she goes with that. Hopefully she'll be back to normal very soon. Try not to worry too much.
