Specific question about frozen shoulder

Hmmmwhatnametochoose · 28/11/2021 11:20

Hi I'd be grateful if any idiopathic (not caused by injury) adhesive capsulitis sufferers could respond. I had a frozen left shoulder 10 years ago. I now have pain in my upper right arm and although the shoulder has some restrictions in movement, I'm not sure it is freezing. Can I ask - what was the first symptoms? I can't remember whether it was pain or freezing that I noticed first. TIA

Hi I had a frozen shoulder about 8 years ago and as far as I remember it started aching first. It was probably a couple of months in before it started freezing. I really hope it hasn't comeback for you, it's so unpleasant.

Yeah for me it was aching first too, also tightness in my neck muscles. I had it first about 8 years ago. Then was diagnosed with it again three years ago. I do stretching every single day. It seemed to help and it didn't get as bad the second time. Hope you are okFlowers

Thanks @Mistymountain and @Klinkerbell. *Sigh. Oh well... I did it once, I can do it again.

I just noticed pain when trying to shrug my coat on. That was nearly a year ago. Still in pain now with severely restricted movement.

I'd say big hugs but... well, you know...

I'm 2 weeks post hydrodistension. Aching and wierd elbow pain was my first sign. Only got the restriction once the pain became overwhelming and was frightened to move it anyway.

I'd go private in a heartbeat if I could (knowing how utterly devastating it is) should I get FS again.

I went private first time round and it was the best thing I did. I don't think the consultant I saw is still practicing though.

I'm worried as I'm 10 years older and have developed arthritis and other little delights since the first FS. I was relatively fit at the start of that.

Pain was first symptom

@Hmmmwhatnametochoose how is your pain now?

I've just been diagnosed with frozen shoulder and it's taking a long time to get the diagnosis as I didn't have pain in the shoulder or any stiffness for a long time, I just had a lot of pain in my upper arm.

I've also had pain in my forearm, hand, armpit, shoulder, and top of back.

The pain has been going on for ages, the freezing has only really just started in the last couple of weeks.

Thanks for asking @LittleGreyFluffyCat (I LOVE your username!). Full blown idiopathic adhesive capsulitis now - shoulder is losing ROM, pain on a spectrum from an ache to unbearable 'zingers' in my upper and lower arm. Very little pain in my shoulder. I had a phone conversation with my dr this morning - she was lovely and has prescribed painkillers - tablets and gel to apply to my arm. I'm also taking CBD oil which, I think, is helping, although it is very expensive.

I'm so sorry you have also got the diagnosis. Make sure you look after yourself and get all the help from your doctor that you can. The hideous pain will pass, and your shoulder will unfreeze in time.

Oh sorry to hear that yours has developed! The NHS hadn't managed to diagnose my arm pain, so I went to see a private consultant. Of course by the time my appointment with him came around the freezing had started so I'd diagnosed myself!

He suggested a private operation to release the joint but I haven't decided whether to do that or not. At the moment I have no idea of the cost, but I'm sure it's not cheap!

CBD oil sounds a good idea, thanks. Hope you can manage ok, it's not fun, is it?!

Thanks for mentioning my username. I had a very pretty little grey cat but sadly she was killed by a car last September. I still have her lovely tabby brother though.

I went to a McTimoney chiropractor in the end. Took about three trips and there was some pain but it is much better now and virtually pain free full movement. Mine was cause by a very minor injury but there was no tear.
