Steve has been on morphine since thursday evening he is on the liquid oramorph, thing is he is needing it every couple of hours which seems a lot.and it makes him uncomfy for much of the night.
would he be better with the patches? are they slow release? or longer lasting?
he is totally out of it most of the time until the pain kicks in.
i am not sure why he is in so much pain he is on day 5 of chemo but chemo didn't give him pain last time just tiredness sickness and feeling crap.
anyone know about the patches?

i blame xmas.

Merrymissychristmas · 16/12/2007 22:21

Hi oj.

My mum worked her way through most forms of morphine throughout her illness. The most effective combo for her was fentanyl patches and 12 hourly oxycodon.

She was drowsy at times but not as bad as when she was on oramorph and mst.

Sorry to hear you and Steve are having such a rough time.

Hope this helps. xx

Hi OJ, sorry you are having such a tough time.

My neighbour is on morphine patches, it keeps her pain at bay, so she is able to carry on life pretty much as "normal". She has just operated out some of the tumours on her spine. She says the patches are the only thing that works for her.

onlyjoking9329 · 17/12/2007 14:11

the Mac nurse has been and soted him some MST slow release morphine and some anti inflamortries the tabs are 12 hourly and to use the morphine liquid to top up, she will ring on wednesday morning to see if any improvement.

OJ - please let us know how things go.....

How has Steve been today? x

onlyjoking9329 · 17/12/2007 19:58

Steve still very poorly today, he has the new slow release tablets and he has just had his first ones, they take 5 hours to kick in so he is to have the liquid morphine until then, we will know by tomorrow if the new stuff helps him, it should even the dose out.

OP posts:
whispywhisp · 17/12/2007 20:05

I missed both my dd's nativity plays this year with them both being ill. Such a shame because they both had speaking parts too - even dd2 at only 4yrs old! Never mind. xxxxx
