Question about taking Tamoxifen?

Diagnosed with early BC nearly 2 years ago. Tumor only 1.7mm, clear margins, no lymph involvement. Treatment was surgery + radiotherapy + Tamoxifen.

I took the Tamoxifen for the first 15 months, but then stopped because of the unpleasant side effects. But my BC was ER+8 which is the highest it can be. My oncologist admitted that the overall benefit of my taking Tamoxifen was 'very low' and basically said it was entirely up to me whether to take it or not.

But, even when taking Tamoxifen I still had regular periods and I'm still having them now, despite having stopped it several months ago. So, I must be ovulating which must = plenty of oestrogen in my system still. So should I go back on the Tamoxifen? If I was ER+8 then does this mean I'm much more likely to get BC again, if my body is still having periods?

As I said, my oncologist isn't much use. And my GP just defers to my oncologist Hmm

Have you put all of your data into the Predict tool. It's only data but may give you some information.

www.breast.predict.nhs.uk

I'm triple positive, post menopausal and my results were ER7, PR6 HER2+. I'm currently having chemo, with radiotherapy to follow and have been advised to take tamoxifen for 10 years. I've heard of lots of side effects so I'm not looking forward to taking it.

I know women have swapped brands and their symptoms have been better. I suppose only you can really decide what you want to do.

Hi. Yes it tells me that taking Tamoxifen for 5 years only gives me an additional benefit of 0.7%. Which seems like virtually no additional benefit.

But Predict only asks if you were ER+. It doesn't ask how much ER+ you are (I was 8). So don't know if that has a bearing?

You might be fine on Tamoxifen, lots of women don't notice they're in it.
