Anyone removed their own coil?

This article suggests it's possible to remove your own IUD

I've been trying for a very very long time to get it removed and replaced.

I'm also wondering if I'm menopausal/peri and lack of periods with the coil (been in for 8+ years - mirena) are possibly masking symptoms?

I did it myself. I'd been asking for ages if my pain and excessive bleeding was caused by the coil and kept getting fobbed off. Never explicitly refusing my request for a removal but always finding a reason it couldn't be done. Eventually it all got too much and I took matters into my own hands. Pulled the threads smoothly and out it popped. Pain relief was instant and the heavy bleeding stopped.

Its outrageous the way women are dismissed and forced to continue with a treatment even when they want to stop. It wouldn't happen to men.

I removed mine too. Doctor refused and wanted me to keep it for several more months. It came out much easier than I expected!

Mine came out after a very heavy bleed. I didn't feel a thing and only found out after a scan that It was gone.Grin

My partner took mine out. I had so many problems with it over a number of years, I went for scans and saw my doctor multiple times, essentially my body was rejecting it but my doctor wouldn’t remove it. So one night on holiday, we had had a few glasses of wine my husband removed it. The moment it was removed all of the issues I had with it stopped. A number one friends have since had serious issues with the coil, two friends coils worked there way into their wombs and sadly they aren’t able to have children now

I tried once. It was a quarter out and a dr over the phone was giving me instructions but I couldn’t do it.

I've literally just booked today to have the Mirena coil put in and I'm a bit worried now...

@SomethingBeginningWithX Remember this is a thread about removing it so bound to weigh towards women who had reason to. I'm sure there are loads of positive stories/threads about them 💐

Thanks tiktok. It's prompted me to read a bit more about it and it seems experiences differ a lot from person to person. I've got a few weeks to think it over!

I took mine out myself. Because i wanted to get pregnant. Did it during a period. Washed my hands thoroughly. Grabbed the ends. Came out a treat. Got preggers shortly afterwards.

@SomethingBeginningWithX I've just had my second Mirena put in. I haven't felt anything more than 2 seconds of discomfort when they were put in or removed. Everyone is different and I was dreading having it replaced but it was absolutely fine. So don't worry too much. Hopefully it's ok for you.
