Weight loss - no obvious reason

Over the last few months I’ve lost about a stone. Was about 11st 4, now neatly a stone lighter. I’m 5’7”
Had numerous blood tests and stool sample - all normal.
I have been very stressed over the last few months but definitely not lost my appetite and eating the same as before.
Could stress alone have caused the weight loss?

I’d get a colonoscopy just to check if that happened to me. I hope it’s nothing but better to be safe. Flowers

Chopstick897 · 23/11/2021 20:43

The dr said nothing like that is necessary as the stool sample was fine

@Chiffandbip thank you 😊

I would be very worried but that's just me. I have never lost an ounce without trying very hard. I don't want to be all doom and gloom but it isn't just digestive tract illnesses that cause weight loss.

sillysmiles · 23/11/2021 20:48

Can you keep a food diary to see if you are eating less than you think, but as far as I know, stress alone without reducing food intake doesn't result in weight loss.

Maybe you are eating less than you think?

Chopstick897 · 23/11/2021 20:55

Thanks - I definitely wasn’t eating less or any differently!

Thyroid?

irene9 · 23/11/2021 22:40

Did your daily routine change at all? Did you suffer a family illness or crisis or anything?

Chopstick897 · 23/11/2021 22:49

@Rhioplepog no been tested for that amongst many other things. All results were normal.

@irene9 no changes like that at all.

Without wanting to worry you, has your doctor ruled out lymphoma? My lymphoma didn't show up in blood work even when it was very advanced.

TangledUp789 · 23/11/2021 22:55

I lost nearly a stone in the six weeks following my first Pfizer vaccine. I don’t know if it’s connected or not, but I wasn’t eating less or exercising more. I’ve since put it all back on, sadly Sad

Chopstick897 · 23/11/2021 22:57

@Babamamananarama she checked for any markers in my blood that would indicate cancer.

Do you have any other unusual symptoms? Sweats, tiredness, neurological or gastric issues?

Chopstick897 · 24/11/2021 09:29

@vivainsomnia nothing like that. Have had ongoing vaginal discharge though

I remember my mother (terrified of cancer) fretting about her unexplained weight loss -- she promptly had a heart attack & died from that.

Which wasn't weight-loss related. Rather it was smoking & alcoholism related. Just am always struck at how people worry about the wrong things.

I'm not sure what your point is, because unexplained weight loss can be a symptom of many conditions - which is why the OP's GP is doing tests.
