Does this sounds like gallbladder symptoms?

Dull ache feeling under right bottom rib (like a babies foot)
Very gassy
Loud stomach
Occasional ache in shoulder
But no agonising pain.

This is me exactly!

Been going on for months, very off and on, but has been more persistent since I had covid in September. Went to the GP a few weeks ago and he didn’t think gallbladder as the pain doesn’t seem to be affected by what I eat or drink?
Had a test for H Pylori which was negative and he prescribed some omeprazole. Doesn’t seem to be making any difference.
I am now panicking the pain might escalate and I’ll be in agony!
Have a blood test booked for next week, but not sure if that will show anything.
I don’t really know where to go from here…..

Aquamarine1029 · 23/11/2021 16:06

It certainly does, and if it is your gallbladder, it will get worse.

caz198917 · 23/11/2021 16:07

Yep!! Sounds exactly like it! I had mine out in 2017 fortunately!

caz198917 · 23/11/2021 16:08

I found mine started mild, then with each attack it would get more severe. Fatty foods used to trigger mine

lollipoprainbow · 23/11/2021 16:52

I've had the same for about a week, pain under right rib like a stitch, slight shoulder pain. I'm not in agony but it doesn't feel right just uncomfortable. I always thought that gallbladder problems would cause me agony ? Scared of what it might be to be honest.

Winealot · 23/11/2021 16:58

I also meant to say that the pain goes further down sometimes almost into my groin. All very strange!

Geamhradh · 23/11/2021 17:19

Yep. Sounds like me when mine was starting.
H.pylori, which I've also had the pleasure of, is a much more "acid stomach" so in centre of upper stomach.
Mine also goes down into groin/around right hip. When I was first noticing these issues, dr Google had me terrified of ovarian problems particularly as I hadn't associated gallbladder with lower right side.
I was eventually diagnosed with gallbladder sludge (I think on the scan pic you can also see stones inside the sludge)
I've only had about 5-6 proper attacks in about 3 years, and it took me a while to realise what they were as well- tight band around chest, pain going up into back, shoulder and jaw. What I'd describe as a heart attack on the right.

Geamhradh · 23/11/2021 17:21

Meant to say, I'm managing mine with:
Apple cider vinegar
Peppermint oil
Peppermint tea
Digestive enzymes
Buscopan as and when!
I know I'm going to have to have it out, once your GB is fucked, it's fucked, I'm just putting it off.

tiredanddangerous · 23/11/2021 17:23

It does sound like gallbladder...I have similar symptoms and have had an ultrasound to confirm gallstones.

ilkleymoorbartat · 23/11/2021 17:48

Can it cause lots of wind and grumbling tummy, or is that likely be a separate issue?

Winealot · 23/11/2021 19:27

@ilkleymoorbartat

How long have you had your symptoms?

Cop26CopOut · 23/11/2021 19:30

I thought I had kidney stones but this is my symptoms to a T! I had a CT scan two weeks ago - will that pick up gallstones?

ilkleymoorbartat · 23/11/2021 19:34

Over 6 months on and off @Winealot. The grumbling loud belly for longer.

I have coeliac and I have had all the symptoms you describe. I had a ct scan that didn't show anything but it covered my gallbladder more by accident than as the target so I sometimes wonder if anything was missed or if coeliac and gut inflammation is to blame. It has improved a bit but I still get the baby's foot feeling and really loud stomach noises.

Winealot · 23/11/2021 19:44

Have you spoken to the GP @ilkleymoorbartat?
I don’t really know what to do from here, I’m the same re wind and noisy stomach….when I’ve got the pain, I’m belching a lot and ahem, lots of wind the other end at times!
I was almost disappointed that I was negative for h pylori as at least I would have know what was causing it.
I have bupa cover, I’m considering booking a private ultrasound….does anyone know if you can do that without a referral from your GP?
My GP said he didn’t think gallstones as usually pain starts about half an hour after you’ve eaten.
I sometimes wake up with this pain, it can last for a few days and then nothing for another couple of days.
It’s just miserable even though it’s not agony. Also, I sometimes imagine it’s something hideous which puts me in a panic!!

Lentil63 · 23/11/2021 19:58

Please speak to your GP or go to a walk in centre or if the pain becomes bad go to A&E. I’ve had my gallbladder removed, I could comment on your symptoms but I won’t because I’m not qualified to do so.
Please don’t risk your health by relying on the opinion of unqualified strangers on the internet. Good luck.

Winealot · 23/11/2021 20:26

@lentil63, thank you. You are absolutely right and I have been to the GP. Sometimes it’s helpful to hear that others have similar symptoms as most people with gallbladder issues seem to have excruciating attacks and apart from on mumsnet, all other websites only mention dreadful pain!

goose1964 · 25/11/2021 00:03

It could be gallstones, could be pancreatitis. The former is far more common. I had the double whammy of underlying pain which never really went, plus the intense pain of gallbladder attacks. My gallbladder was inflamed when it was removed.

Twoweekcruise · 25/11/2021 11:17

I’ve had the same symptoms for ages. Very loud growling/gurgling guts, gassiness (farting and burping). Back and forwards to GPs several appointments with gastroenterologists. A colonoscopy and gastroscope and ct scan but nothing other than an IBS diagnosis. I am sure it’s not IBS, it’s every single day and drives me insane. No one has suggested gallbladder issues. I have a gastroenterologist follow up next week, I will definitely be asking about it.
Do you get the gassiness and grumbling in the stomach and bowel area?

Winealot · 10/12/2021 18:32

Thought I’d update, had an ultrasound today and no gallstones found and pancreas, liver etc all looked normal.
The sonographer said that ultrasound isn’t great for checking the bowels though.
My problem doesn’t feel bowel related, it’s mainly upper right discomfort so goodness knows 🤷‍♀️.
So, they’ve now ruled out h pylori and gallstones.
I did tell them that it’s been worse since I had covid a few months ago and he said there’s a lot they don’t know regarding gut flora and long term symptoms.

WilsonMilson · 12/12/2021 14:12

@Winealot I could have written your post. My symptoms are practically identical - upper right pain, mine also goes through to back, sometimes more to the middle, sometimes it goes down to groin where approx my right ovary would be. Keep getting single hiccups through the day. On omeprazole but it’s doing nothing apart from making me have loose yellow poo (tmi I know, apologies).
I’ve been like this for a month almost constantly low level, but debilitating nonetheless. When I look back I’ve had twinges of the same here and there for months but through nothing of it as unsustained.

I’m seeing a gastro on Tuesday who will arrange an ultrasound. In a bit of a panic about what this could be.

So you’re back to square one and none the wiser. I have read that even though there are no stones, sometimes the gallbladder can stop functioning properly, but that can only be detected by a HIDA scan and I’m not sure if that’s available widely.

Winealot · 13/12/2021 16:28

@wilsonmilson. Try not to worry, easier said than done I know.
Are you perimenopausal? I only ask as I am and people I know have had gut issues that came about during this time.
Despite every test under the sun, it’s been put down to this.
Also, have you had any sort of virus?
When I spoke to my GP, he said it’s often very difficult to pinpoint what is causing an issue and sometimes there isn’t a definitive cause.
It is so frustrating, I just want a diagnosis of something minor and a pill to make it go away!!
Good luck at the gastro appointment

WilsonMilson · 13/12/2021 16:36

@Winealot thanks. Yes, I suppose I could be in the peri age group. I’m 44. Periods still regular, if anything a bit closer together than they used to be. Feeling generally ancient for the last couple of years with one ailment after another, but I think this one takes the crown! Haven’t had covid (touch wood) or indeed any other virus or cold since way before covid, so I don’t think it’s post viral.

Cannot wait to see the gastro tomorrow, not that he’ll be able to tell much until tests are done, but at least it gets the ball rolling. Hope you feel better soon, and at least you know it’s nothing sinister - I think as long as you know that it does make symptoms a bit easier to cope with. X
