URGENT ADVICE needed -RHNEG Blood Group - hospital just called saying blood contaminated.........

Hi there

Had a fall on Tuesday, nothing bad but phoned midwife to ask for advice and she offered to see me on Friday at drop in clinic. Baby's heartbeat heard so felt reassured but when I told her I was RHNeg blood group, she said I'd need a blood test as fell after 12 weeks (12+1) to see if baby's blood had contamintated with mine. Told me to call back on Monday for results.

Just getting ready for going out in few hours (xmas meal an hour away, me and dh booked in at hotel) when the phone rings.....hospital calling to say I need anti-d injection as it IS contaminated. I said when do I need it and they said TODAY or TOMORROW . I then said ok, I'll cancel my plans and loose money if baby is at risk which she agreed and then I worried and said 'but I fell on Tuesday' and she said 'OH' and then said 'oh, don't worry, it's future pregnancies that are at risk'.

So now I'm confused. Is THIS baby at risk? Is it just future pregnancies? should I be worried that I haven't had anti-d until this weekend? I'm currently waiting for them to rush some Anti-D to the ward as they don't have any atm.

I just want some FACTS. I knew all about anti-d etc but didn't know that a slight fall in pregnancy could require it etc. I'm so confused and dh is in a state about whether or not he should continue and go to the xmas do anyway? (lots of money spent )

TIA

ummmm, make that later today

Crikey things have changed. Im RHNEG as well and 20 years ago we had the anti-D but nothing about falls etc. I would have been in hospital more than out as I was forever falling over my own two feet, couldn't see past my boobs from very early on.

Cheer gigglewitch, keep you posted!!

DL - yeah, even 5 years ago they didn't give anti-d's until AFTER the birth

Forgot to update this thread.....After getting advice from mears (a midwife on MN), I phoned my midwife and she has phoned blood bank and confirmed NO signs of my baby's blood mixing with mine and no anibodies - the hospital apparently went into a panic as I was just over 12 weeks and had trauma (it was tiny!) and gave it as standard!!! I told her I'd checked with midwife AND Dr at the hospital and they both confirmed that baby's blood HAD got into mine.....she's quite annoyed as they went over her head and issued it anyway and caused unnecessary panic! She understood my reason for needing to know and said she's the same but now I can go and enjoy Christmas without worrying!

So panic over

lol at you becoming my stalker

I will send you an email

I can't believe they made me worry by getting all wrong - but I'd rather worry for nothing than not worry and something be wrong

Merry Christmas!

Just read this thread and am really glad you got good news. Just wanted to say I'm rH -ve and had a fab home birth - the midwife gave me the anti-D the next day when she came to check up on us, no problem.

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 22/12/2007 13:06

ib - that's great to hear as now all is ok, as long as it stays that way the home birth is 'back on' I did wonder about anti-d but that sounds fab that they can do it at home

this is going well, eh?

and i got my antiD at home anyway after a hospital birth, with DS2. just went there, made a mess of the sheets etc, had a shower.... chilled out on the ward for the day and came home!!

sounds like after the stress that it could all hopefully go your way in the end
