Has anyone used sad lamps and do they actually help or are they a waste of money?

My husband had a stroke last June and as a result his sleep cycle was totally disrupted. He was awake up to 16 times each night and trying to get up each time thinking it morning. Then he'd think he needed a wee because it was morning. It was wrecking both of us.

I bought a huge SAD lamp and used it on him for an hour each morning. After a week he was sleeping soundly all night. Now we use it if he hasn't had at least an hour's outdoor light on his face each day and he sleeps really well.

I use one for up to an hour most mornings from October until Spring. Always used to get "down" and would blame the build up to Christmas but it's more than that. The SAD lamp just seems to lift my mood ( and also means I have to make time for myself which can't be a bad thing ).

I had one but it always gave me a headache. I get headaches in the summer on sunny days too, so I don't know why that didn't occur to me as a possibility!

According to a recent podcast I was listening to, It's much better to get early morning light (Huberman podcast) I can't remember which episode. Go outside first thing
