I had that with a really bad head cold a while back.I took Sudofed tablets and that helped.HTH

I had this and used ear wax candles. (They are for REMOVING wax btw, not made of ear wax). I was amazing to see how much gunk came out .

If it's just wax, you can dissolve it with a few drops of olive oil in the ear 2 or 3 times a day (get sterile stuff from pharmacy, and they can sell you a cheap ear dropper too). But it might be an infection, in which case you don't want to be dripping stuff in there. If it's really bothering you, it's worth getting it looked at by a nurse or dr. - though they tend not to treat infections now, unless the eardrum perforates (and believe me you'd know if that was on the cards), as they're normally viral and self-limiting, but at least you'd know what it was and whether there was anything you could do. Might just be that your Eustachian tubes are blocked from the cold so pressure can't regulate properly, in which case it should go away after the cold clears. Decongestants can help that a bit but you're right, they have a rebound effect if overused.

Am veteran of multiple ear infections - can you tell?

Have heard ear wax candles produce same amounts of gunk even when burned nowhere near an ear .... never tried them myself but am sceptical!

i had a nurse look at em, she said they looked clear, thats what i dont get.. unless its a tube she cant see?

she said its not an infection either, whixh pisses me off more coz i just wanna know whats going on, i cant tolerate loud noises n i get whistling in my ear if the baby screams its horrid

Eustachian tubes are right inside, they link the ear and nose, which is why they can swell up / bung up when you have a cold, diagram here. They normally regulate pressure, but if they're blocked because of a cold this causes high pressure / weird feelings. It's too internal for the nurse to see if it's bunged up from the outside. If it is that, I would think it's likely to settle down of its own accord once the cold has gone - if not then go back, but if it's clear and not infected then I'd think you should be OK in not too long. I know it's really annoying though! Sorry couldn't provide more useful suggestions! and again, I have no medical quals here just had lots of ear problems, so do go back to a professional if it doesn't settle.
