Anyone got noro or had it recently? I'd forgotten how horrible it is! 🤮 Was throwing up during the night, and today my head is absolutely pounding. Have taken paracetamol but it hasn't helped. Any recommended remedies?

Ride it out. I didn’t eat when I had it.

If you usually have caffeinated drinks it might be a caffeine withdrawal headache as well.

Mamabear12 · 20/11/2021 18:05

It is going around unfortunately. So sick of this virus. Wish they would make a vacinne!!!

Dont eat until you are over the vomitting phase. Just drink water w the right balance of sugar and salt. You can buy from pharmecy or order online. I always have these in the medicine cabinet.

when you can eat plain white bread toast or white rice. BAnana or applesauce. Until you know you are in the clear, then you can eat other stuff. Stay away from dairy for a week at least.

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77 and @Mamabear12. I'm feeling absolutely awful. The vomiting has stopped, but the body aches are awful and my temp has been reaching 39. Sad

Poor you. It is the worst. I am an emetaphobe so I would be freaking out. I dont handle these type of bugs well. But being prepared helps me cope for if and when someone comes down with it. I have done the research and so when my kids are sick, I know what to do so they do not get sick again after passing the initial vomitting. I do not feed them too early and we start light and easy. Only when they are absolutly hungry. It is fine to go a day or two with out food (esp for adults). Obs for the younger children we do not wait more then a day...but they get better quicker.

Watch some netflix to try and distract and hopefully you can just rest and do not have any littles to watch over while you are sick.

Wonder how people can self diagnose themselves with noro over any other gastrointestinal complaint and yet covid involves a test to confirm it’s not any other respiratory complaint?

Covidwoes · 20/11/2021 18:34

@Mamabear12 I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old, but DH has been fantastic today. I'm so relieved it's the weekend so he's at home!

@SweetBabyCheeses99 I didn't write this to get into an argument about that. Maybe it isn't norovirus, who knows, but regardless I feel pretty terrible.

I think I have it just now, I've been in bed for 2 days and feel awful!
How long has everyone found it lasts? This is my first time having it 😩

I have a 6 month old but luckily DP has a week off so he's been brilliant!

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/11/2021 18:41

Trust me you know when it’s noro. I’ve had food poisoning and I’ve had noro, noro was worse.

TyphooMary · 20/11/2021 18:42

It's pretty obvious when it's rota/noro, I really don't think OP needs a test, but they don't generally do that for folk anyway. Not anywhere I've ever lived.

I feel like replying to this thread is tempting fate because having just got over covid, I've been in hospital today because a new cold has gone south and my lungs are battered.

I'll probably get rota now.

Not really.

I always stay away from food as long as possible then nibble on dry toast. Just water with electrolytes. Touch wood it hasn't happened to me in a few years.

nannybeach · 20/11/2021 18:45

Don't take analgesia,it will upset your gut. Fizzy drinks go down and stay down better than water. No eating for 48 hours. Regular sips of fizz. See how you feel after 48 hours, water, maybe a bit of toast. White bread, low fibre for a few days.

Alarae · 20/11/2021 18:57

Don't! Worst three days ever.

Woke up on Sunday to get my daughter and she had thrown up in her cot. Cue early morning bath and bed change.

She was fine throughout the day until she randomly projectile vommed.

Kept her from childminder, then on Monday late morning I felt dodgy. Ended up throwing up for about 24 hours- my husband was about 4 hours behind me.

The only thing that got us through was a lot of Cbeebies/Bluey (my daughter was absolutely fine past Sunday night) as we both felt like death warmed up.

Hideous thing Noro. Only good thing about it is it doesn't last long so you just have to ride it out.
