Crushing pain mid chest- anxiety?

Hi, I’ve had a bad cough and not sure if related, but I had a very intense crushing pain in my chest - right in the middle. I had this once before, a couple of months ago. I was sitting down at the time. Don’t think I was particularly anxious. I’m inclined to forget it and move on as I hate going to Gp . Anyone else had similar experience?

Crushing pain can be a sign of heart attack. Do you have any other symptoms?

Puddingnpie · 19/11/2021 19:21

No, just that crushing pain for 5 minutes or so. It went away completely, so not acid reflux (my first thought)

Heart attack comes to my mind first.

SmallGreenStripes · 19/11/2021 19:21

Or pneumonia? How long has the cough persisted?

Take a lateral flow test, people have described the effects of Covid as being like this.

Jjjayfee · 19/11/2021 19:23

I had similar. My GP did a phone consultation and insisted I went to a and e immediately. Luckily they didn't find any problem with my heart but I think you should either go to a and e or phone 111

I did think covid and although have had negative LF, took a pcr this morning.
It’s seems inconceivable that it could be heart attack- maybe angina though?

I had similar. It was my heart. Please get checked out, even if it turns out to be anxiety or acid, it is in your best interests to know.

SmallGreenStripes · 19/11/2021 19:26

So none of these other symptoms?

Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

Another thought (because I ended up in A&E with similar this week) do you know your BP?

I went in on advice from 111 with shortness of breath & chest pain/discomfort. Chest xray & ECG clear - but my BP was at "crisis" level. 220/130.

I am now on medication "probably for life" which is fine but I wouldn't have previously known high BP could present that way.

Puddingnpie · 19/11/2021 19:33

SmallGreenStripes No, no other symptoms- just the intense pressure on my chest - painful.
CoffeeRunner - that sounds so scary! Glad you went and are on meds - but terrifying experience.
BeyondMyWits thank you for sharing. Was it just the once you had this before getting checked?

Hiya, with hindsight it was the second time, intense pressure like a knee on my chest... just felt something was wrong... it was. Walked to hospital as I was in town, not far away, and found out I was having a heart attack and somehow they knew it was not my first.

Bagelsandbrie · 19/11/2021 20:52

Get checked out. An ecg and a couple of blood tests and you’ll know if it’s heart related.

Donotgogentle · 19/11/2021 20:57

Seriously op - you need to get that checked out by your gp asap.

There could be more serious issues than anxiety going on and whilst I get that you hate going to the gp this really justifies it.
