DS weeing all the time, doctors baffled

Hi

My DS1 age 4 has been weeing every 10 to 20 minutes for over a week. Thankfully he is ok at night.

We have had two dipstick tests and two cultures done to check for urine infections, and all are negative.

The GP has now also just done a swab in case it is thrush, and has started us on thrush cream which has made no difference so far.

His willy looks a little sore, but he says it doesn't hurt and he is being very brave and uncomplaining, especially as his fun activities have had to be put on hold.

Hs anyone else had this or got any ideas? Is there anything we can do to help him (we are trying taking acidophilus and live yoghurt).

It sounds obvious, but is he drinking a lot as well? If so, is he thirsty, or just drinking out of habit? Poor little thing - I hope he's better soon.

he does not seem to be drinking that much and in fact we would like him to drink more to help flush things out. when he wees it is just a tiny bit at a time.

Hi

I have a 5 year old who wees all the time to. I find she doesnt drink enough, if she drank more she would increase her bladder control. Im not to bothered as she is ok in the night. Also because she is at school i think she gets worried incase of accidents.

But mostly i think it is down to not drinking enough.

Hope your son is ok.

Recently my sons preschool brought up this issue with my son. I took him to the doctors and there was no signof infection etc it soon passed with no treatment and even though it was worrying at the time I now think it was just an irritation that has passed and righted itself in time on its own. I would be wary of treatment unless necessary as i think boys do tend to go through such stages xxxx

Is this thread relevant?

meysey · 14/11/2004 09:37

fingers crossed then mykidsmum!

thanks for the thread zebra - I learned a lot, but he doesn't like blackcurrant or artificial drinks, so that's not it.

It interesting that he can go for long periods at night. Do you think it might be anxiety? Has he had a wee-related fright recently? Sorry, no other useful suggestions, meysey.

misdee · 14/11/2004 10:17

did he gwet told off or anything for having an accident? maybe he is scared of wetting himself.

I've wondered if there might be a psychological element, but think the willy irritation points to something physical.

He has never had daytime accidents and we try and be supportive if there is a night-time one, so I hope it's not some trauma.
