Flu jab

I work in a school, am 28, overall in good health. I am considering getting the flu jab because over the last few weeks the school has been on its knees with staff and student sickness. I had a bad cold which wiped me out. I've never had the jab before.

Would you bother?

Absolutely I would (and do). I worked in sales for a long time and mixed with lots of people over the day. I got flu when I was 27 and ended up in hospital. I've had the flu jab every year since. For the sake of 30 seconds and £8, it's definitely worth it for me

I paid for mine at Boots. I'm 38 but wfh but I've had flu before and tend to think why not have the jab when it's quick and easy, if it protects me and others around me. Had no side effects at all.

Yes I get it every year, much better than getting the flu

Proper flu will leave you bed for weeks Not like bad cold at all. I had it in my 20s developed ME and never got over it and messed up my entire life. Well worth it in my opinion even just save yourself feeling awful for weeks.

I can't see any reason not to get it. Everyone should.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/11/2021 10:55

I think it’s worth getting, I was about 35/36 when I started having mine.

Abraxan · 14/11/2021 10:55

I would.

I get mine for free due to medical condition and medication, but otherwise I'd pay for one.
Dh has no underlying issues and got his for free at work this week. The employers paid for it all and organised it to happen at work - all optional.

19y Dd gets a paid one every year after having a nasty bout of flu mid exams about 4/5 years ago.

Like all viruses, flu can affect in different ways from mild or even asymptomatic right up to bedridden or hospital admission, even being fatal at times. We know that most flu cases are actually mild or asymptomatic.

A cold virus can also be mild to more severe.

They are different viruses and can;t necessarily be distinguished just by severity.

What’s your point? I was sharing why if I was her I would have had. I would have had a jab if one was around at the time. Yes she may get it mild or not at all. She wasn’t asking the odds getting it very badly she asking if she should have jab.

On other hand could just cross your fingers and hope for the best. I’ve not considered myself to have had flu before or since. Many people say it you can get out bed it’s not “real flu” but granted medically that’s not totally correct.

Thanks all, I will book it
