Today the orthopaedic consultant said I should try this - have got probable nerve damage in my leg as I fell awkwardly in June trying not to drop my baby. Not sure if I am keen as pain is not bad EVERY day but I know it has to be taken every day several times, just wondered if anyone has any experience of it? TIA

My mum takes it, but for epilepsy!

Yes, i read that it's used for that more often than it is for nerve pain..does she get on OK with it?

Yes. In fact she went through a whole range of drugs before settling on that one. SHe takes one which is a gradual release thing.

Not me personally but some of my diabetic patients take it for neuropathic pain with good results.

It is used to treat nerve damage pain.

It is a drug that is licenced for epilepsy but this is a well recognised and effective usage.

Dh is on it, and it has markedly reduced his pain

I do appreciate that it has more than one use. I was just saying!

My mum's first anti-convulsant was carbamazepine (sp?) and I was gobsmacked at the range of use when I looked that up on medline!

Thanks..it is tempting, pain is driving me up the wall tonight!! Have a GP appointment next Thursday to discuss it.

Sorry tellus!

I used to work in the pharmaceutical industry and we used to get phone calles on a regular basis from patients about off licence use. It was something that worried them a bit (understandable)

We had an antidepressant that had good pain relief properties and lots of patients would phone up, worried and upset that the doc had thought them depressed, rather than being in pain.

I also did reserach on Carbamazepine. that is fantastic at treating trigeminal neuralgia

I would be PLEASED if this also had antidepressant properties actually, as I still have a touch of untreated PND
