An embarrassing and annoying problem

All my life I have been plagued by threadworms. I tend to get them 2 or 3 times a year, usually if I am run down or very stressed. I am particularly careful with hygiene and making sure everything is washed and clean. No one in my family has ever caught them from me. I take ovex which tends to get rid of them easily and follow all the normal hygiene rules around reinfection.

Has anyone else ever been particularly prone to getting them and did anything work to get rid of them once and for all? It really down get me down when I get them ☹️

Yes I got them loads until about 4 years ago. Drove me mad. I have no idea if I had them constantly for years and kept reinfecting myself but once my kids left primary and I stopped working in a kids nursery and didn't get them anymore.

@Titsywoo that’s really interesting, do you reckon you were catching it from the little ones? I don’t work around children, only have my own 2 who have never had them and for as long as I remember I’ve always had them every year. It really is so frustrating

I think it is the most likely way to have kept catching them as kids get them way more than adults. I wonder if some of us are just more susceptible?

You think your kids don't have them but if you keep getting them I would treat whole family just in case, hoover mop and wash everything including all bedding towels cushions teddies etc dressing gowns clean bathroom thoroughly with gloves on throw away after disenfect all taps door handles bins lids light switches treat every 2 weeks until all gone if not go to the doctor maybe they are not thread worms and try a different medicine for them recommended by doctor and make sure you are taking it 100% correctly

Do you buy cooked meats for sandwiches? I knew someone who kept getting them and it was put down to the sliced meats from the supermarket

I am having the same problem- I get them, but my (teenaged) children don't. Driving me mad, as I cannot see how I'm getting reinfected. Are there worms that are just resistant to the treatment?

Yep, me too, although don't tend to get them as much now that less people in the house. I was always the one who brought them into my parents house too. When the kids were younger, it was generally only myself and one DD who ever had them...DH, DS and other DD never did. Randomly attractive to worms me.
