Anyone had anal tags or hemeroids removed?

Under general anesthetic?

(Sorry for gross topic)

I'm having this done next week and wondering what the recovery will be like? All the medics ice spoken to say that the surgeon will discuss it on the day but I need to plan childcare if necessary so really need to know in advance. I have a very active 15 month old who is also a terrible sleeper and my partner is disabled and can't do nights 😫 Will I need a night nanny do you think?

Thanks!

I haven’t but I’ve had an anal fistula operated on recently and I have to say, the recovery was very easy - especially compared to what I had built up in my mind. While it’s not the same surgery, it’s the same area so I would imagine it feels quite similar. I wouldn’t have needed a nanny but if I could afford it, I’d probably do it for 2-3 days just for ease.

Thank you! (And love the user name 😂). We can't really afford a nanny tbh, but baby is regularly up for 2- 3hrs in the middle of the night and if I can't sit down I honestly don't know what I'd do..

I had an open hemorrhoidectomy some time ago. I can’t lie. It was very very painful and it did take me quite some time to recover. Is that the procedure you’re having?

Embarrassingnc34 · 13/11/2021 14:16

@Handsnotwands not what I wanted to hear but thank you. It's a tag rather than a hemorrhoid but everyone who looks at it tells me it's huge (the GP actually exclaimed "oh my God" Hmm). What does "open" mean in this context?

Whoops lost my reply. I believe the open refers to the wound being left open to heal rather than being stitched. I don’t know why. I didn’t want to know!

I think my recovery was exacerbated by being given codeine which is hindsight baffles me

I had 3 huge hemorrhoids so was prob much worse than just a skin tag.

So like hands, I had an open wound (they call it ‘laying it open’ with a fistula) and I could sit but it was better if my weight wasn’t properly on it. You might just have to sit a bit awkwardly.

It’s going to depend how big your wound is, I imagine. But if you have to, you will cope. Smile

Thank you @Handsnotwands. I was actually worried because I can't have codeine (still breastfeeding) but I guess it can cause constipation so maybe for the best?!

I have generally been putting off even thinking about this hence only posting now..

Thanks @ABitOfAShitShow. Would one of those post childbirth cushions be helpful do you think? And were you ok walking? I also need to get dd to nursery and back (5 min walk each way plus lifting in and out of the pram).

My mum gave me one of those child inflatable rings 😂 but I found I preferred not sit on it as I felt better supported. I just didn’t sit on anything super hard. I managed to sit in a taxi the day after for over 30 minutes. Walking was slow and sore but totally doable round the house.

I had this done about 10 years ago. Recovery was about 2 weeks for me - not loads of pain immediately after but excruciating pain every time I opened my bowels for 2 weeks (like pooing glass I'm afraid). Sorry because I know that's not what you want to hear but best to be prepared. On the plus side - totally cleared up my piles and internal polyps. Hope all goes well OP x

I’ve just had a fistulotomy which is in the same area and leaves an open wound. Recovery wasn’t as bad as I thought but there was certainly significant discomfort and the anaesthetic takes it out of you for a few days. Keep on top of the painkillers (otc ones worked for me) & I would be tempted to get some help for the first week if you possibly can.
