Chickenpox in 6 month old

Are there any special things I need to do in one so small? First blistered spot appeared yesterday, and now lots more. At least it explains why he's been grumpy recently. He seems happy now though, and doesn't seem to have a problem itching.

And an I leave him from Monday mid-morning to Tues mid-morning with dh and MIL, or would that be cruel to them (which I don't really care about) or him? I'm meant to be going to my brothers graduation.

Hi, your poor little spotty baby! DS had chicken pox at 5 months, and it didn't seem to bother him too much at all. Like your DS, he seemed more upset before the first spots appeared. We just put calomine lotion on the spots and got something from the homeopath as well, but I can't remember what. The spots come out in clusters, so you might find there are a whole new crop tomorrow and then some more on Monday. I was happy to have DH look after DS when he had it, but this was only for a couple of hours at a time as I didn't know how to use my expressing machine! I think you'd only be being cruel to them if they hadn't had chicken pox before. It's apparently very nasty to have it as an adult.

My youngest daughter cought chickenpox when she was around three months old. There's not much that you can do apart from the old faithful calamine lotion and putting socks on his hands if he starts itching. I don't think that it would be cruel for you to go to the graduation, you'll be leaving him with people who love him and know how to care for him (not just a babysitter). If he's anything like mine were, he'll probably sleep through most of the illness anyway. If you're happy, go to the graduation, it's not going to happen again.

DD had chickenpox at 11 months and at the time I read somewhere that if they catch it under a year old then they may be able to catch it again later as their immune systems aren't always sufficiently developed to give immunity. I have no idea if its true, DD hasn't had it since.
