Hi, does anyone know the best place to look up where to get single mmr vaccines in South East London(ish) area?

Hi Prefernot, we had ours done (2002/3) with Choice Health Care (www.choicehealthcare.co.uk) which is in Harley Street. Don't know if this is near enough to you, but they were very good and we had no problems at all with them. Since then, I understand that the Mumps vaccine has become hard to obtain; whether they have problems getting it though, I'm not sure. HTH

Thanks tinyganghq (what a name!) I'll look them up. I'm not desperate about the mumps one, mostly the measles.

I believe the restricition on import of the mumps vaccine has been lifted and is easier to get now tan a couple of years ago (DS just had it with no waiting at all)

Direct Health 2000 do it - they are based in Eltham, off the A2. I got my dd done there, but they have only just got the mumps vac in - she's had to wait nearly 2 years for it. Don't know if this means they have lots of mumps vac in or what they have has all gone to kids like mine.
To be honest, the whole thing is such a faff, wish I'd never gone down the route. More and more studies show there is no link. Seriously thinking of just giving ds the MMR at the GPs and have done with it. Also costs so much more now than it did 2 years ago and money is tighter when you have more kids........

Chandra · 13/11/2004 15:40

You are proaly right Cha, the latest reports blame the mercury on the first vaccines and mentions the MMR just as a trigger of a damage that has already been made. With this information AND a mercury free early vacciation I would be thinking the same as you.

Yep, the Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon does the single vaccinations. My dd hasn't had them yet but is due for them right about now (she is 13 months) and my GP (and other mum on mumsnet) have recommended there.

Davros · 13/11/2004 17:57

Don't do it until 15 months. I think there is evidence that its more effective after 15 months (Jimjams knows). We went to the Holborn Medical Centre in Central London (Lambs Conduit St).

Jimjams · 13/11/2004 18:22

Yep - more effective after 15 - 18 months. Especially if you have had measles (or I guess a fialry recent vaccination) yourself.

the Breakspeare Hospital in Hemel Hempsted is where dd got hers, but that's not very good for south london!

prefernot · 13/11/2004 21:27

Thanks everyone. Davros, think I'll try there first as it's the easiest to get to for me so far.

you could try www.e-med.co.uk. But they are in St. Johns Wood. However, no trouble making an appoinment for the mumps vax, which dd will have in February.

prefernot · 14/11/2004 20:55

Thanks Uwila, will try there, a straight tube journey for me to St. John's Wood! I can't seem to get info about mmr from the Holborn Medical Centre, though there's lots of info re. their mercury-free jabs.
