Found lump please help**

Hello.

Feeling really confused and upset and just need someone to talk to/reassure me.

About 2 months ago I discovered a lump in my groin when I pressed. I went to the doctors who diagnosed a suspected femoral hernia. I have been having pain in the lump especially on exertion. A tugging, burning type pain with abdominal cramps which occasionally radiate to my thigh.

Went for an ultrasound yesterday and the surgeon was struggling to see what it was but said he doubted a hernia. He thinks it is full of fluid and nothing nasty. However my brain is in absolute overdrive - I have got to go for an mri to determine what it is. He also mentioned endometriosis which is something I have long suspected but I've never been diagnosed.

Please can somebody reassure me or help me as to what this could be. I'm 30.

Thank you

I had this recently and it was a large fibroid. Easy to say I know but try not to panic. There are lots of harmless things it could be…

@peachpearplum01

Thank you for replying. Did you also have similar symptoms and physically feel the lump?

Aw bless you. I've had this twice- lumps in my groin that both times (a few years apart) couldn't be explained.

In fact, one time at my appointment with the consultant, he said he wanted to operate on me the following day, ad he was suspecting it may be cancer.

Both times it was fine. First time a hernia. Second time (which was the time when the consultant wanted to check it out ASAP) it was a chocolate cyst. I had to then have a laparoscopy in another procedure after that was removed to check for any other signs of endometriosis, but nothing else was found.

So there can be many innocuous things it could be and I hope this reassures you a tiny bit.

I know you will still worry tho. Do you want to talk more? What does the lump feel like?

pringlexo · 10/11/2021 21:44

@Notashandyta
Thank you so much. I have got myself so worked up and have been crying for the past two days because of the doctor not knowing what it is!

I have always suspected endometriosis due to the pain I suffered for years and years but this past year the pain seems to have eased which has confused me.

The lump feels like a grape that's in the top/side of my groin. My skin has slightly been pushed out too so you can slightly see a difference compared to the other side. The lump does feel bigger after I've been on my feet a lot at work compared to when I've been at home resting..

Thank you so much for replying xx

No worries, I remember the horrible worrying and obviously thinking it could be the worst, it's awful.
The fact it changes size is a good thing and is indicative it's a hernia, which is good news! Anything sinister, as far as I know, doesn't change size. And even of its not a hernia, the consultant thinks fluid filled, whereas cancerous lumps are hard and rigid.
Could be endo then, maybe even you will reduce your pain if they sort this for you.
What's the next steps?

Notashandyta · 10/11/2021 21:51

I was a similar age to you as well. Mid twenties with the hernia and early thirties for the chocolate cyst

pringlexo · 10/11/2021 21:57

It just concerns me that the consultant said he couldn't see any signs of the hernia BUT it could still be one... I was panicking during the scan which resulted in me shaking and he said I was making it difficult to see the scan properly.

The next steps are just to wait for the mri scan to come through.

I'm terrified of anything that is going to effect my fertility - I have no children yet. X

Totally understandable and I really understand the worry. Giving you a handhold. But also reassurance.
A soft lump on one side that changes side will be treatable. I also had a massive ovarian cyst when I was very young that meant I had to have one ovary removed. And then when I had the hernia, and then the chocolate cyst, I still hadn't had kids either.
I went on to have three children in my mid to late thirties, despite all the surgeries. The reproductive system is extremely resilient.
Have you got a date for your mri?

Notashandyta · 10/11/2021 22:10

Sorry, just read back and you haven't.

I hope that my experiences will alleviate your worries just a tiny bit.

Hang in there, you're young and although there's something there and it's a massive worry for you, it looks extremely likely it will be something relatively simple and you (and your fertility) will be fine x

pringlexo · 10/11/2021 22:17

@Notashandyta

Thank you, you have helped me calm down so much. I automatically have assumed that every lump equals cancer and it's trying to get that out of my head that is difficult. It has mainly concerned me that he didn't know what it was as I presumed that something minor would easily show on an ultrasound - as you can see, I've became a doctor overnight 🤦🏼‍♀️ x

I'm so glad I've helped a bit. Twice it happened to me and twice it was nothing serious. The second time especially there was concern but that was because the lump was quite hard I think. Still turned out to be nothing, and was removed with no probs.
The fact they aren't urgently looking at your lum, either with the mri or with an op, is also a very good sign. At your age, and without kids, they would be straight in there if they thought there was a chance it was anything sinister.
Keep me posted, will be thinking of you x

pringlexo · 10/11/2021 22:32

@Notashandyta
Yes they didn't say about urgency but the hernia was listed as urgent anyway due to it being a femoral one apparently.

Without sounding stupid - I don't know the difference between a hard and soft lump?

Will definitely keep you updated

X

Try not to panic, you will soon know what it is. I've had breast lumps twice in the last 3yrs and both times it's been fluid filled lumps (cysts).

pringlexo · 10/11/2021 22:55

@Mandyjack

Thank you. Just wish I could turn my brain off 🤦🏼‍♀️x

I know it's not easy to is it, at least it's being investigated and you'll find out soon what it is

pringlexo · 13/11/2021 10:28

Hi everyone.

Still not heard anything yet but the lump now feels like a massive swelling on my groin.

I really don't know what to do but I'm panicking like mad about it as it has changed over the past couple of days.

Does anyone have any advice as to what this could be? Thanks

@pringlexo Hi OP, how did you get on, I know it's a while since. Was it a hernia in the end? Hope you're ok now. I have something similar x

pringlexo · 10/06/2022 17:56

@anfieldgal

Hi!
Turned out to be a chocolate cyst caused by endometriosis. No hernias!
Have you found out what yours is yet?
Feel free to message me x

@Notashandyta

Hi - turned out you were right and I had a chocolate cyst!

Was your chocolate cyst in your groin or on an ovary? Mine was just in my groin hence the misdiagnosis of a hernia!!

Currently ttc since my surgery but no luck so far xx
