Chemo - constant blood clots

Hi, so my mum has triple negative breast cancer, and she's now officially over half way through her treatment.

She's in and out of the hospital constantly because every time she's had chemo she ends up with small blood clots in her arms. Making her arms very painful, swollen, bruised etc.

My mum is wondering what they will do next, or will they keep using her arms like they are? She currently has blood clots in both arms as neither of them are healing quick enough for her 3 weekly chemo.

They did say they would make changes next time, but my mum didn't think to ask, and is now scared about what will happen during her next chemo....

Have you been through the same/similar thing, if so what did they do differently to help you??

Thanks in advance x

Hi, sorry your poor mum is going through this. My mum has almost finished her active treatment and as part of it had 6 sessions of chemo. She had a picc line put in before it started which has saved her veins. Is that an option for your mum?

I agree with the above poster! Mine got a thing called a power port which was fantastic, easy in and out when she was done treatment. Minimal fuss and discomfort. I believe but you would need to confirm this, but I think we were told it is a lower infection risk than some of the other lines you can get in. No idea how or why so might be wise to double check but I vaguely remember being told it had some other benefits!
