Gallbladder pain/symptoms but no gallstones?!

5 weeks ago I had a gallbladder attack. For the first time. It was extremely painful and I thought I was having a heart attack and almost called an ambulance, but I wasn't breathless. So I sat with it and let it pass. I then managed to get a GP appt and she did the "Murphys test" and said my gallbladder was infected. I had blood tests and was sent home with antibiotics.

Before the attack I had been eating low carb, so obviously lots of fat. I was having yellow stools.

Since the gallbladder attack I've been having sharp stabbing pains on both the right and left hand side of my abdomen, radiating into my back.

I often feel full quickly in the very middle of my stomach.

I have sharp stabbing pains in both my left and right side.

Last week I had BROWN urine. GP said it was a UTI even though nothing came up in the sample. Prescribed 3 day antibiotics which eased my other symptoms.

Today, 5 weeks since my attack, I've been for my "urgent" ultrasound, and despite extreme pain when the sonographer went over my gallbladder area, she said she couldn't find the source of my pain.

I was gobsmacked! She said there were no gallstones, and no kidney stones.

So what the hell is going on?

I've been left with pain after the US as well.

Just to add, since the initial attack I have been eating extremely low fat

You don't need to have gallstones to have a dodgy gallbladder. It could be low functioning. They test for that with a Hida scan.

Hi, an ultrasound often won’t show sludge, small stones or a stone actually caught in the duct - you need an mri/ct for that. Then, if that’s clear you can try get a hida scan to see if it’s functioning. It seems to be difficult though - I have private insurance and after the mri the first consultant I saw said there was no need for a hida (despite the fact I’m still in pain). I’m seeing a new consultant in 2 weeks who I hope will be more useful and request the hida. I’ve been in pain for 8 months and am now skin & bones!!

@Blinkingbatshit wow 8 months! You poor thing Flowers I'm losing weight but it's a very steady 1-2lbs a week, not a dramatic loss (and I'm overweight)

Interesting about the ultrasound, the sonographer was a bit curt with me and didn't explain that sludge etc can't be seen.

So I guess back to the GP to try to get them to push for further tests.

At my ultrasound, the sonographer, as she was doing it, said "you have sludge here". When I got home, she'd written on the report thingy that the gallbladder was fine. Go figure. Googling, I could see that my gallbladder is about 75% gunk inside and if you look very closely, you can see a ball sticking out which is a gallstone.

I know! If I hadn't been a health anxious freaky Googler I might just have left it, but obviously I went home and looked at all the pics (full abdo scan) and thought wtf? That looks like an aubergine with a grey aubergine inside it!
