Rectal Bleed

Will start by saying I will contact my gp. Unfortunately they’re only open 3 days a week and only accept messages 9-11 on those days. It’s very difficult to get a response never mind an appointment

I’m pregnant and constipated. I’ve had a few red smears after a bowel movement the last few weeks - figured fissures, internal haemorrhoids etc

Today the loo was bright red, the blood soaked through the toilet roll a few times before it eased off. Please tell me this is likely to be an internal haemorrhoid bursting and nothing to worry about.

My mum had a rectal bleed and died from colon cancer a few months ago and I’m verging on hysteria to be honest. Give me your experience of a bleed that was nothing serious please.

This happened to me and I got a terrible fright. I actually was worried I was losing the baby there was so much blood. I believe it was a pile. Movicol and some sprays sorted it out although it did happen once more after baby arrived when I hadn’t been drinking enough and hadn’t taken movicol ect so Allowed myself to get constipated again and aggravated the piles. Now five months on no trouble at all and no movicol needed ect. The cool pad packs from boots were a lifesaver as they took any swelling down! You get such a fright though I could not believe the blood!!!

Oh my goodness thank you so so much for replying. If it wasn’t for my mums issues I wouldn’t be so worried I don’t think.
Will definitely get stuff to help the constipation.

I've had rectal bleeds that look like a horror movie it was a fissure

Glad your getting it checked out better to be safe thsn sorry

If you have a family history of colon cancer, please don't ignore this. Unlikely to be serious but needs investigations. Can you speak to your midwife as well as trying to contact gp?

Hortonhearsadoctorwho · 08/11/2021 17:33

Will definitely contact gp in the morning, will put about my mum as well so hopefully they’ll respond.

The care near me is shocking, I’ve had small vaginal bleeds in early pregnancy. Midwife said it was too early for them to do anything (between 5-8 weeks) and hospital said no point scanning as can’t see anything. Was told if I’m still pregnant by 10 weeks to book in with them, was really traumatising to be honest. Not heard babies heartbeat either.

Get it checked out of course but plenty of explanations other than cancer. Dp has to have banding down every 5 years or so

Apparently the gp isn’t taking requests today. Usually can contact them Monday - Wednesday 9-11am but most times you can’t. Will try again tomorrow

Have you told them what's happening?

I had this both pregnant and non but it was a lot worse than pregnant. it sounds like a pile bursting and it can look like an utter horror show. Is it painful? you poor thing.

Effram · 10/11/2021 09:16
