omg im soooo embarassed
had gw about 7 years ago, thought that was what it was, went to the gum, they checked i didn't have anything else then i got some cream, sorted done.
i was quite run down in pregnancy maybe this has set the virus off?

anyway the cream i had before was called warticon but can this be used when bf?
i know ill have to see my gp or go to the gum clinic
just don't want any examinations as im still getting over the birth.

i guess i just don't want to go to my gp as i saw my gp alot though out my pregnancy and sort of got to know him, and now im really embaressed

but also don't really want to go to the gum as they prob make me have all the tests
when i just want the cream as i dont need the tests
as i know i havent had sx with anyone else and niether has my hubby
he has never had gw or any sti anyway

and also i dont know if i can use the cream and bf

Don't want to leave you feeling embarrassed AND abandoned! WHy not ring the GUM clinic and ask the question?

LaylaandSethsmum · 12/12/2007 22:44

Yes you can use the cream when you are bf. Your GP will not bat an eyelid if you go with this problem, but you could always see another GP in the practice if you would feel easier.
If your warts are external then an examnination shouldn't cause you any discomfort but they will probably want to check what they are dealing with and yes it is probably your pregnancy that set it off again. HTH

superbabyhugger · 12/12/2007 22:54

thanks guys. im feeling so yukky

i think i might ask to see a diffrent gp.

ill phone the gum clinic but i bet they make me go through allsorts but perhaps the gp will be like well you had it before and warticon worked so heres a script and off you go
but i don't like the thought of it being on my medical record
silly i know

yes its only external theres only one tiny one

Don't be embarrassed. Genital warts are caused by the HPV virus which is sexually transmitted but lies dormant, only emerging when you are run down or immuno-compromised eg pregnant. It is estimated that as much as 35-40% of the population carry this virus as there are often no symptoms that would alert you that someone is a carrier and they themself would probably not know. The only way to avoid ever getting it is to use condoms ALL the time or get every partner tested before having unprotected sex with them - which frankly, is pretty unrealistic. Have also heard that even condoms do not protect fully.

Hmmm, the drug is called podophyllum. I can't find anything conclusive on its use during breastfeeding - I would be inclined to say it was ok, but can't find absolute details. The amounts you'd be using are tiny, right? And you don't want to use it on any broken skin, that increases the amount that gets in your bloodstream.

How old is your baby?

Please don't be embarassed about having gw, they're so so so common. Please do get your husband checked, though, in case he has any.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/12/2007 11:01

Ah, the WHO seems to think it's ok - well podophyllum resin is. cite

bethoo · 13/12/2007 11:04

podophyllum is just a treatment you apply straight to the warts so i cant imagine it affecting bf at all.

mummypoppins · 13/12/2007 11:13

superbabyhugger please dont be embarrased.........I had the same after my 2nd pregnancy. I was mortified . Never had them since and I have no idea where they came from etc.

The GUM clinic were brilliand and said that it was probably the trauma of the birth and being run down etc etc.

HTH you are not mucky or abnormal at all !

ladylush · 13/12/2007 12:08

Hi mummypoppins I was thinking it is better to get it after pg than during - as the only treatment is that treatment where they try to freeze them off and it often doesn't work.

superbabyhugger · 13/12/2007 21:09

oh thanks for being so kind to me
and for the links

you are right, ive gotta get it sorted

just gotta decide weather to go to th gps or gum

what do u think i should do

Personally I would go to the gp as I loathe gum clinics. Your gp should not judge you as they should be well aware how common it is and if anything be going out of their way to reassure you. Glad you found the posts reassuring
