Feeling very sorry for myself what can I do, doctor has given me antibiotics only pain killer I can take is paracetamol (18 weeks pregnant) I've been in tears all day I just want it to stop. My next appointment to have it out isn't until the 20th.

Oh no! Clove oil? It's helped me in the past, you can buy it in Boots, you dab it on the gum and it tastes a bit rank but it works!

Cotton wool pad soak in whisky or similar. Bite down hard and it will numb your face.

I'm going to drive to the chemist see if they have any clove oil.

There's some kind of topical anaesthetic you can buy to coat your tooth that is really helpful. Can't remember the name. Might be ok in pregnancy?

Clove oil, had this too when pregnant when i was pregnant and also cold pack on the dip just above your cheek bone parallel to your eye.

Can you go private to have it seem to any earlier than the 20th?

It will feel better once the antibiotics kick in though.

I feel for you, toothache is unbearably grim

BoredPandas · 06/11/2021 20:04

Fingers crossed the antibiotics work for you. Toothache is hell on earth. I agree with the ice on cheek and clove oil.

Orajel is what you need. You can buy the 10% benzocaine version from Amazon in next day delivery or you can request the stronger 20% over the counter from a Pharmacy.

It is magic bliss in a tiny tube when you have toothache that you can't get away from.

Tittyfilarious81 · 06/11/2021 20:47

Anbesol is good too

Managed to get some orajel from Asda! What a relief shame it wears off so quickly Sad

Why isn't your (NHS) dentist fitting you in as an emergency? Go private - pointless suffering for the sake of a few quid?

Glad you got some tonight. I find it works best if you apply some to the inner and outer gum of the tooth that's giving you grief.

The initial numbness wears off fast but it's still providing some pain relief after that. I also find that it seems to have a cumulative effect over time.
