Can you tell from a CT scan if a mass is benign or not?

I had a CT scan last week and phoned my surgery for the results yesterday. The woman I spoke to (not a doctor) couldn’t understand the results and said she’d get the doctor to call me back today.

This afternoon I get a call but it’s the woman I spoke to yesterday and not the doctor. She tells me the doctor wants me to go today to have blood tests and he’ll call me on Tuesday to discuss the results. I asked what was seen on the scan and she says it’s a benign growth on my ovary.

I couldn’t go for the tests today because I’m having to self isolate due to having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning.

I had the CT scan done in the first place because my GP referred me for an urgent colonoscopy but they didn’t have appointments early enough so I was sent for the scan and then the colonoscopy came through this week.
So I’m panicking a little because google is telling me you can’t tell if a growth is benign or cancerous from a scan, and now they have gotten me in so quickly for a colonoscopy and they want urgent blood tests, it’s making me think the worst.

So, does anyone know for sure if you can tell in some cases if a growth is benign or not?

This sounds like what I am going through. I went to gp with abdo pain, who then sent me for an urgent CT and they have found a something on my ovary and my head was spinning I can't remember if she said a mass or a cyst. I also had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and a biopsy and I'm waiting for my results. I'm so anxious about it.

You can in some cases say it is most likely benign…but blood test will give additional clues.

They’re doing the blood tests to make sure it’s NOT malignant. I don’t think they can say 100% from a scan that something is benign. So they’ll do the blood tests ASAP to make sure. They can make a good, informed guess that it’s likely benign- and I suspect that’s the message that’s been poorly passed on to you.

Try not to worry. Easier said than done, but remember worry won’t change anything. Hope the colonoscopy is not too horrid Flowers
