What are the effects? I've been diagnosed with seriously low vitamin D.

I've had a phone appointment only to discuss the results and I forgot to ask many questions.

Does it cause:

Extreme Tiredness and Motivation
Spots
Hair Loss
Poor Appetite
Irritability
No interest in health or looks
Loss of breath easily
Confusion

Basically can't be arsed with anything x

Apparently yes if you google vitamin d deficiency. Just as importantly for women it helps the absorption of calcium, really important re bone health.

My husband had a knee injury which wasn’t heeling after 6 months. He had tests and they told him that he had low vitamin d. When he started taking high vit d tablets the injury went away.

Yeah can definitely cause excessive cba-Ness!

Also impacts your immune system

You are less resilient, less able to shake off infections and more likely to develop pneumonia and chest infections.

Caramellatteplease · 06/11/2021 09:47

Yes. Although we find the biggest impact is on joints and joint pain

Thanks for the replies.

My bones / joints seem fine. Although I rarely leave the house?

I was prescribed a high strength vitamin D3 supplement ( 20,000 IU) daily then weekly.... my levels were 46 so well below the recommended 75 .... they still aren’t 75 so I take a 20000 supplement monthly as well as a daily adcal

There are three ways to get more into your system, sunlight on skin, through food (do you eat any oily fish or liver?) and supplementation.
In the northern half of the UK the sun isn't high enough from October to March for skin to generate vitamin D so tbh everyone should take the basic supplement. It's also too cold to expose much skin where I live for a lot more of the year😄 so I only really drop the supplement from June to mid September.

I've just been diagnosed with low Cut D, despite already taking a 1000UU supplement. I went to the doctors about nerve pain and tingling in my face. GP has suggested I take 3000IU for 3 to 4 months to see if that helps. I also get really achy painful legs and feet and I'm really hoping boosting my Vit D helps with that! From a bit of online reading, it seems a lack of it can cause a multitude of varied symptoms!

NotMyCat · 07/11/2021 00:08

Mine was really low, I think it was 9 Blush
The worst thing was the shin pain, I just put it down to getting older
I had a high dose course and now take 4000 a day

Mabelface · 07/11/2021 00:19

All the above, plus anxiety.
