Went to gp a week ago due to morning dizzy spells when sitting up in bed in the morning and general light headed feeling throughout the day off and on. He was thorough and thinks I have the above. He's given me the Epley manouver to do.....anyone else have/had this. Problem seems to be coming from my left ear. Had dodgy ears since early 30s (tinnitus).

DM did, linked to the covid jab, prescribed Prochlezone. She’s also suffered with her ears from birth.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 04/11/2021 12:32

I get this periodically then it passes, maybe twice a year. I've always had ear problems since a child.

Andwander · 04/11/2021 12:37

I think its Labirinthitis.I have had it,its awful,the sickness and vertigo,dizziness.

RollaCola84 · 04/11/2021 12:47

I've had it on and off for about ten years, it's horrible. I found the Brandt daroff exercises helped, a previous GP also prescribed me prochlorperazine when it was really bad which dealt with the worst of the nausea at least.

I found it particularly difficult to deal with as I didn't feel ill as such, just constantly dizzy. I spent a lot of time listening to audio books last time I had a bout.

thanks for responses chaps. somehow helps knowing that others have (obviously...) had it. i sat up too quickly after doing the epley thing yesterday. a sudden flash of the room moving REALLY fast. totally freaked me out. really want this to fade off asap, this is week 2 (nearly 3). gp mentioned some meds i could go on but in the same breathe told me some people have psychotic episodes on them. i told him he wasn't selling it to me and that i'd try and give them a miss Grin

I developed this in my mid forties. Interestingly, now I am on HRT it has all but disappeared.

HandScreen · 04/11/2021 17:55

Epley manoeuvre works great

I think, you got this wrong.the medication for vertigo is a medication that is also taken when psychotic.my GP told me not to be alarmed by this. The medication helped very quickly.I would not put up with it for 2 weeks.

I've had this. Keep doing the Epley thing. It does work. ( and I was very HmmHmmHmm) BUT they aren't wrong when they say it can make you feel temporarily worse. Sit up verrrrry slowly.

It will clear up!

helpfulperson · 04/11/2021 18:46

I get this a couple of times a year and it lasts two or three weeks. Over time I've got good at knowing what sets it off if I'm having an episode so can avoid. Turning over in bed is a big one for me.

FingersofFish · 04/11/2021 21:53

I had dizziness for weeks last year and the GP talked me through Epley, worked amazingly for me but it wasn't an active infection I had. I needed 2 goes at it but the first attempt was the worst but after I felt immediately significantly better. Is it worth trying again? My GP said it should make you feel worse whole you're doing it.

TheLeadbetterLife · 04/11/2021 22:01

I had this last year and I think I’ve got a mild recurrence of it at the moment. Mostly feeling it in the evenings when I’m tired. It was bloody horrible last year though, went on for about six weeks and I felt drunk the whole time.

beethecrackon24995 · 06/11/2021 00:31

thanks for your responses, it really helps reading them. i was worried about doing the epley thing as something i read online (yes, i know i shouldn't read too much online....) suggested that it can sometimes make it worse by making more crystals loose/displaced but having read some of the above comments it has given me fresh confidence to try the epley' again. i have read that it should ideally be done 3 times a day although the views vary from three times before bed to once in the morning/noon & just before bed? what do you guys think? thanks

My mum had this a few months ago, panicked because she didn’t know what was happening, I took her to the hospital and thankfully a senior doctor there correctly diagnosed her the same day. A woman I work with has been suffering with these symptoms for over a year, has been repeatedly misdiagnosed by various doctors, and when I suggested this may be what’s causing her illness after my mum was ill, she discovered it was. It’s a horrible experience and apparently more common in women over 45.

Epley. Three times a day. Sit up slowly, like I said though. Good luck

Coffeeonmytoffee · 06/11/2021 07:20

Can you try and see an audiologist or a physiotherapist with a specialism in vastibular rehabilitation?

Wallywobbles · 06/11/2021 07:54

I've had it for most of the last year. Had the Epley done twice. Second time really helped. Just get it lying down now.

beethecrackon24995 · 06/11/2021 09:56

thanks again for responses
