To think dh should get this looked at?

Mole on his back has recently turned brown from pink and has an odd growth on it. Dh is refusing to see gp. Does it look okay and I’m being dramatic or not?

To think dh should get this looked at?

Definitely needs to get it seen, especially due to any change in colour or shape. Also the colour is spreading outside the border.

My mum died from malignant melanoma nearly 20 years ago. It started as a mole on her shoulder blade. She left it because she didn’t want to waste the GP’s time. If she’d gone when she first noticed it, she might still be alive. She might have met her grandkids. Tell your DH to get it looked at. Please.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/11/2021 12:28

Why are men so stupid. One of my best friends (man) died recently of skin cancer. It started like that then spread to his spine within 6 months. He became a quadriplegic then died in a hospice. It was awful.

TotallySuper · 03/11/2021 12:30

If you feel strongly enough tell him not to come home til he's booked an appointment.

Mamamamasaurus · 03/11/2021 12:39

You aren't being dramatic - he needs to get it looked at. Surely 20 mins vs potential surgery / chemo etc etc is preferable?

BobLemon · 03/11/2021 12:40

Your DH is being a twat.

velvetcandy · 03/11/2021 14:43

Hi everyone he’s got seen this morning we sent in photos and two doctors looked and suspected cancer. He’s now gone back to the surgery I’m sitting in the car waiting for him and writing this, when he comes out I will know more.

Hope it's good news but at least he is dealing with it. x

velvetcandy · 03/11/2021 15:03

Ok so it’s a melanoma and he’s been referred to hospital

If it's any comfort, I've been put on the pathway twice with changing moles and they haven't been cancerous. The most important thing is he's listened to you and gone early. Good luck.

Ponoka7 · 03/11/2021 15:07

X post. You've had a quick diagnosis, which is good, normally you'd wait to go through dermatology. Don't go through worse case scenarios, stay positive.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/11/2021 15:28

How did they diagnose so quickly?

velvetcandy · 03/11/2021 16:13

What do you mean quickly? Since last post he’s now got an appointment on 15th to remove it and have it biopsy etc

We also showed photos to a family member who’s a gp who has kicked our gp up the arse today. We went from being told this morning he would have to call back tmrw to getting an hospital appointment 😂

2bazookas · 03/11/2021 16:29

Please don't let him delay; he needs to get that seen urgently. Make the appointment for him if necessary.

I have had and survived malignant melanoma (the potentially deadly form of skin cancer) . I survived because I noticed a fast-changing mole; my GP made an urgent appointment for biopsy and the surgeon got to it in time; before it spread internally. With MM, an internal spread has a poor prognosis. So speed really matters.

Musicaltheatremum · 03/11/2021 17:03

@velvetcandy

Ok so it’s a melanoma and he’s been referred to hospital
It is great he has been referred and it does look worrying but it may not be melanoma. My colleague had a very suspicious mole but it was benign. You need the biopsy to be sure. Fingers crossed
Throckmorton · 03/11/2021 19:09

Well done. Best wishes that it turns out to be nothing after all, or something they can remove easily.

SecretWitch · 03/11/2021 19:15

I was diagnosed with melanoma this past spring. I had surgery including a lymph node biopsy. It was caught at stage 2A so no further treatment needed at this time. Your dh needs to look after himself, hopefully the gp will say it looks fine but best to have it checked.

SecretWitch · 03/11/2021 19:16

Sorry just saw your update. If caught early melanoma is very treatable.

Starryskiesinthesky · 03/11/2021 19:18

That was great that you persuaded him to go and that he is now getting seen.

nimbuscloud · 03/11/2021 19:38

That’s good that it’s being dealt with.

Gooseysgirl · 04/11/2021 00:19

I'm so pleased to read that he agreed to get it looked at! Wishing him all the best for his next appointment - hopefully will get sorted ASAP.

GirlWithAGuitar · 04/11/2021 01:59

They diagnosed melanoma by just looking at it? That’s not possible without a biopsy.

Redcherries · 04/11/2021 07:46

It’s good they are removing it ASAP but you won’t know it’s melanoma until they’ve done the biopsy. It may look like it could be, but it’s never 100% until the results.

I’m coming up to five weeks wait for my suspected melanoma results (it’s been removed by excision biopsy), but there also a couple of benign tumours it could be.

Best of luck.

Flopsy88 · 04/11/2021 08:12

I don't mean to alarm you but my 32yr brother had something similar looking on his back. He ignored it for ages, partly because he couldn't see it so wasn't reminded of it, but whenever we mentioned it and told him to get it checked he also said 'stop nagging me' etc. He felt completely well so the suggestion he might have cancer at his age seemed ridiculous to him. He finally made a telephone GP appointment at the beginning of this year, sent some photos in and they made a fast track 2 week wait referral to dermatology. He just started immunotherapy for stage 3 melanoma this week. It had spread to his lymph nodes but thankfully not further than that. Even with the immunotherapy the chance of it recurring within the next 5yrs is 30%. It's a horrible situation he's in now and I know that one of the worst things for him is feeling so so stupid for not getting it checked sooner. If it's caught earlier that chance of it recurring can be as little as 1%. Please please show your husband this!! His mole might be completely fine, I really really hope it is, but it's just not worth the risk. He needs to get it checked and the GP will take it very seriously because they know how deadly melanoma is

Flopsy88 · 04/11/2021 08:18

Sorry, I just saw your updates after posting. Glad he's been seen, at least the ball is rolling now. They won't be able to give a diagnosis until they've removed the mole and tested it so maybe they just said it's a suspected melanoma? Fingers crossed it's not or just in the early stages. It's very treatable if so xx
