my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at 36 the same age I am now. I was referred to my local breast clinic last year as I felt an area in my breast that i was unhappy with. I was checked and told everything felt ok so was given another appointment 6 months later for a follow up. I went back in october and was given a mammogram this time. The result letter came through a while ago saying that "no significant abnormality was found and this is reassuring" i have been given another follow up for february (due to family history i suppose). Its been playing on my mine though and what i'm asking is does this result mean my mammogram was clear. I would be happy but for the word 'significant' i would have been happier with just "no abnormality". Is this just the way they word result letters? anyone help?

Ok, I think you need to make an appointment with your GP to explain the results because otherwise you'll just worry about it.

But, without having any personal experience in this, could it be that the area where you felt something wasn't right maybe has benign changes and so that's why they're saying nothing "significant". So, for example, if you'd felt a lump and it had turned out to be a cyst it wouldnt be that there was nothing there - obv the cyst would be there - but the cyst wouldnt be a "significant" finding?

Do see your GP or the hospital to be talked through the result though for your own peace of mind.
