Cool running water for at least 10 minutes. If it still hurts or feels like burning, add another 10 minutes. Continue until it, well, no longer feels like it’s burning.
If you’re somewhere where you don’t have running water, burn gel is a good alternative.
It’s tempting, but never use ice as you can damage the skin.
If a burn is larger than the palm of your hand (so, for a child, their palm not yours), seek medical attention. Also, if the burn or scald has removed skin or tissue when it occurred, cover with cling film & seek medical advice. Don’t use anything fluffy or lint-y that can stick to the burn.
If a burn has clothing sticking to it, do not remove. Use running water, cover with cling film & seek medical advice.
If it’s more than a superficial burn and is partial or full thickness (so you’re seeing things under the skin that you don’t usually, like blood or muscle) or if it’s a deep burn that you suddenly can’t feel after you’ve done it, seek medical advise. I’ve experienced this one, full thickness burn that didn’t hurt, but the nerves had been destroyed so of course it didn’t 😂. Have a lovely, numb scar now lol).
Never use oils (including essential oils), creams, fats or any other woo. Unless you fancy having an infection or worse.
Ibuprofen can be used to help with pain.
A little astonished people don’t know basic first aid.
