Allergic rhinitis - nose dripping like a tap for weeks now. Help! 🤧🚰

I have asthma and am allergic to cats, dogs and a load of cosmetic ingredients.

I am also allergic to dust, some grasses, and have hay fever.

For the whole of October I have been sneezing non stop and my nose has been dripping like a tap. Seriously, it’s no exaggeration. I’m getting embarrassed in work meetings at trying to convince everyone I don’t “have a cold” and I “promise it’s not Covid!”

Over the next few weeks I will be doing training sessions for 30-40 people at a time and I don’t know how I will get through it. I am constantly sniffing. If I blow my nose it’s ready to blow again within a minute.

I’m on Fexofenadine. Nose sprays tickle my nose and make me sneeze more.

Is there anything to help turn off the tap that is my nose?

Have you got dust mite proof protecters on your bed? I’ve put them on our bed and my husbands nose has stopped running all the time.

We’ve got the bedroom carpet to replace too.

We do have the mattress protector but not the pillow ones. I have just ordered some, thanks for the suggestion! Sadly we are in rented so can’t do anything about the carpet other than plenty of vaccing!

I have no idea how I am supposed to be delivering training to a room full of people tomorrow. My nose is constantly pouring Sad

You could do with a duvet protector too, coastal linens sell them. You can spray informed on the carpet or buy a steamer.

Just explain, it can take a few weeks for allergens to leave your body anyway so it’s not an overnight thing. Most of us have had an allergy at some point. There’s no quick fix with the allergies you have.

Mines cows milk. It’s very easy to avoid. It’s no fun mind.

I can't tolerate nasal sprays either but my Dr persuaded me to try Avamys as last resort and it has worked a miracle for my constantly streaming nose and allergy symptoms.

Maybe worth a try - I've not had a runny nose since I started using it over a year ago.

Mosky · 31/10/2021 16:08

I'm allergic to all those things.
Nasal sprays take a while to work and do make it worse before it gets better. Maybe try to persevere? I use nasonex on prescription and it helps.
I tried an air purifier but it didn't help much.
Mothballed my wood burner - that made a big difference.
Other than that.
Lots of hoovering. I have a robot hoover that does the bedroom every day.
Blinds not curtains.
No feather pillows or duvets.
Wash pillows twice a year.
Change bedding at least once a week.
Obviously no pets.
I have inherited a cat which I am hugely allergic to but it's only allowed in the kitchen.

I have perennial rhinitis too, and when the runniness gets too much I take a decongestant in the morning before I go to work, just to damp the snot production down a bit.

Boots do their own version, or you could try Sudafed or something like that. You aren't supposed to take them for more than a few days on the trot, and they are a stimulant - if I take one later in the day, I am awake all night.

Do you try nasal rinses? My ds suffers every year and we have about 4 months where he uses a Neil Medd sinus rinse system

MistyFrequencies · 31/10/2021 16:18

I'm similar to you with asthma and allergies. Nasal rinse every morning, before bed and whenever you're a bit stuffed up. I use sinu-rinse, but any chemist will sell you a good one.

Mosky · 31/10/2021 16:50

I forgot to mention nasal rinsing!
I bought a neti pot for about £3 and use cooled saline. It works well for hay fever as well.

sadie9 · 31/10/2021 21:36

Pseudoephedrine like sudafed to dry it up then some painkillers to just dampen the irritation...might help get you through. Like Nurofen cold and flu tablets have both.
If you wear a mask then people won't notice as much? Best of luck.

I’m having an awful week. The nose won’t stop dripping. I even put tissues up there to block it only 30 mins later the ‘water’ has soaked through those. I have put into place all the recommendations on this thread. We’ve even bought a Roomba to do daily vaccing in the bedroom and living room. This is like hell. I can’t focus on work. It’s not letting me sleep. My pillows are soaked.

Please, there has to be some drug which will dry me up. I’m absolutely desperate.

Hi,
I have asthma and a few years ago I did Rhinolight and it stopped this completely. My nose is never stuffy now. You can also get immunotheraphy for your allergies - have you tried that?

NotMyCat · 02/11/2021 19:13

Neli med nasal rinse is probably worth a go

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/11/2021 17:10

Go back to the dr and say it’s not working for you, when I had px anti histamines it was like putting a fire out.
