dd2 is 20mths and has a temp of 39.8 gave calpol and nurofen 30mins ago and has not come down at all. When should I start to panic?

Any time now. Make sure she's lightly dressed. Mine always try to wrap up when they have temps as they feel shivery. Vest and nappy will do.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 11/12/2007 17:00

Did you give both nurofen/calpol? I would give it another 30 minutes.

What are her other symptoms?

Madoldcatlady · 11/12/2007 17:01

That is assuming you have central heating and don't live in an ice box like I have for the last 3 years!

Madoldcatlady · 11/12/2007 17:03

Re read my message. I meant temp will come down anytime now, not start to panic anytime now! DOH.

cherryredretrochick · 11/12/2007 17:06

she doesn't seem to have any symptons except for falling asleep, on sofa, and just followed me into kitchen and fell saleep on floor.

same here today DD2 19 months temp 39.6 gave neurofen, took 50 mins to take effect, normally takes 30 with mine.

If you are worried, phone doctor or NHS direct - they were great with me yesterday

hth

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 11/12/2007 17:08

Is she starting to perk up now?

I think you should phone a doctor if she doesn't significantly improve soon

coby · 11/12/2007 17:09

same symptoms mine had yesterday - didn't know what was wrong. Then suddenly last night big viral rash and V nasty cough (sorry, not what you wanted to hear )

cherryredretrochick · 11/12/2007 17:12

Is now fast asleep on kitchen floor, going to call NHS in 10 mins if not perked up. Try to avoid unless absolutly nec as always send you to the childrens. Not that I am being flippant.

Can you wake her up? Make sure she is just asleep, not unconcious, which can happen with a very high temperature. It just seems strange that she's asleep on the kitchen floor. Check her all over for rashes, check that she can tolerate light, and check that she can move her neck with no pain.

meepingaroundthechristmastree · 11/12/2007 17:16

same symptoms my dd had - high temp which eventually went down. Next day a cough, croaky voice and viral rash. She's all better but I've got it now!

coby · 11/12/2007 17:16

what they said to me yesterday was that if I was at all worried that she was acting out of sorts (my DD2 usually very active and responsive suddenly falling alseep on the floor and not even able to follow me if I left room - she is very clingy) they said take her to see a doc. I had to wait 40 mins for a call back for that advice.

have you retaken temp yet?

cherryredretrochick · 11/12/2007 17:26

still not gone down, on phomne to nhs now

OP posts:
coby · 11/12/2007 17:29

good, I think you need her to be seen ASAP, just retaken my DD2 temp 40.1 panicking waiting for call back too

cherryredretrochick · 11/12/2007 17:38

said if goes abve 40 take her to doctors immediatly.

OP posts:
coby · 11/12/2007 17:42

how far are you from doctors time wise? has it gone down yet? what thermometer type are you using? my in ear gives a different reading from digital forehead one - forehead one higher

coby · 11/12/2007 17:43

sorry, didn't mean that sound like 20 questions - apologies

mummyandbaby · 11/12/2007 17:47

If you are concerned, why not take her to the doctor before they close. Usually close at 6pm.

cherryredretrochick · 11/12/2007 17:51

in thge ear, dh on way home so I can take her to docs.

OP posts:
coby · 11/12/2007 17:51

good idea mummyandbaby - thats what I did yesterday with my DD2 and I'm glad I did. she got worse overnight but I was more relaxed that she had been seen (if that makes sense)

coby · 11/12/2007 17:52

good luck, i think my dd2 temp going down - 50 mins again - some virus eh

let us know how you get on.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 11/12/2007 18:15

Glad you're taking her to the doctors. let us know how she is.

Madoldcatlady · 11/12/2007 20:47

I know as a parent very high temps (40+) are really scary but I've never yet had a GP alarmed by one. I've taken the DDs numerous times to the docs with a super high temp and without fail all they say is "Calpol and Nurofen come back in a couple of days if there's no improvement".

mummyandbaby · 11/12/2007 21:46

Hope all is well and temp has come down.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 12/12/2007 07:54

how is she today cherryredretrochick?
