Would you supplement for this B12 level?

I've been recommended to by a medic friend but not sure? Level is 348.

It's the lower end of normal but still normal. Any advice? Thanks

You can still suffer symptoms at low end of normal, it won’t do any harm to boost your levels, and you could feel better than you do now towards optimal levels. If your friend is medical, why wouldn’t you take their advice? Better to boost it than end up low, the symptoms I suffered prior to having my levels boosted by a loading dose of injections were awful.

Thanks for that. I think I'll add in a supplement. I was veering towards taking her advice but this isn't her area of expertise, she merely said she thought it was low enough to possibly consider supplementing.

@HazelandChacha what symptoms did you have

OP posts:
HazelandChacha · 29/10/2021 19:46

Bone aching tiredness
Memory problems
Pins & needles in my fingers
My face tingled
Dizziness

At one point I actually thought I had MS!
I heard on a radio show a couple of years later about a girl who’s B12 was so deficient (caused by inhaling something) that it damaged her myelin sheath of her spinal cord and she was paralysed from the waist down for some time.

B12 is a treat symptoms kind of thing. Values can be above the lower end of the threshold but still manifest in physical symptoms as there is natural variation in each person’s own lower threshold. Excess does not accumulate and is excreted in urine as B12 is water soluble.

@HazelandChacha may I ask did you suffer with headaches when you had low b12? I'm 39 weeks pregnant mine is very low I've just had my third injection out of 6 course if I make it to next Friday and haven't had a baby. The waffy/faint feeling has
Gone but the headache and pins and needles are 24/7

HerRoyalNotness · 30/10/2021 02:06

I’m just above that and get monthly shots. My GP prefers it about 700. It isn’t actually helping and it’s dropped a bit since my last bloods in Feb. 🤷🏽‍♀️

HazelandChacha · 30/10/2021 08:04

@mrssunshinexxx I’ve always suffered from regular migraines & headaches so I can’t say if low b12 triggered them any more tbh.
Headaches can be a side effect of the hydroxocobalamin injections though, as can high BP. Maybe you should as for a BP check.
Wishing you a safe & speedy delivery.

@HazelandChacha thanks I'm having bp regularly checked due to family history of preeclampsia got 3 more injections next week I am certain it's linked to pregnancy though

Crikey! Mine were 189 and the GP said nothing.

I have started taking a liquid supplement that I saw recommended on here.
