DM in for lumpectomy - anyone hand hold?

Need a bit of a hand hold.

DM has a tiny grade 1/stage 1 cancer. She's gone for lumpectomy today - I understand she went down at 4pm but still no update from hospital.

Does anyone know how long the procedure takes and if I'm starting to worry unnecessarily?

I called the ward and the sister was quite vague about a delay.

I'm away with kids for half term so not close by and I'm starting to get a bit jittery.

Can anyone offer any reassuring words?

TIA

Hand hold from here. My DH has recently had surgery and the nurses on the ward were flat out. It’s easy for me to say but I’d put it down to them not having time/forgetting to mention at shift change. Maybe call back yourself so you can put your mind at rest?

At our hospital handover is between 7 and 8 , so wards are rather busy, so it might be worth checking in a little while that she has returned from Theatre Recovery and is comfortable.

I have had a lumpectomy. After the operation your mum will come round in the recovery room then she will be taken back to the day ward where she will be given a light snack and drink. They will make sure her blood pressure is ok and that she feels well enough to go home.

They like you to have come round, eaten toast and had a cuppa before calling for pick up. My op was really late so I didn't get picked up till ten at night. Just drive her home as smoothly as possible. She will likely have a chest binder on and the joyous surgical stockings. Binder needs to stay on. I found I needed to change my own dressings about four days in. I was also alergic to the tegaderm dressings. Highly recommend Boots big dressings. A waterproof pelmet can be made with a freezer bag and surgical tape. Not completely waterproof but ok for non splashy shower.
