alternative therapies for glue ears?

DS has 2 glue ears and has seen a cranial therapist but not seen a good enough improvement I think to avoid grommits.

Does anybody have any tips or recommendations as like to avoid the OP (nd small chance it will solve it)

Hi DD3 has had glue ear, and currently has got her second lot of grommets in, things to try are: cutting out dairy from diet, asking GP/consultant for Anti-hystamines (dries up the gloop produced), frequent hard nose blowing or asking for a ballon called "Otovent" which the child blows up with his/her nose thus altering the pressures in the ears which is supposed to help the glue to drain away slowly, however non of these worked for DD.

you could opt for a hearing aids instead of grommits.

thank you hennipenni, that is our worry, have the op and it wont work. There could be so many other reasons why their hearing isnt what is should be!

Will ask re the hearing aid cheers jingles

A specialist in paediatric osteopathy.

The Children's Ostepopathy Centre in Harley Street (tis a charity! You pay what you can afford in a sealed envelope!)

All the gunk from DS's ears drained away the nigh after the first treatment!!!

(He did have grommets in the end.. and they do work.. rarely do they not. And it's not a big invasive op at all.

The osteopathy is a definitey option though.. can't emphasise that enough..

Sorry, my post wasn't clear about the grommets, they are successful whilst they re in, it's when they fall out we have a problem. The first lot lasted about a yr and it then took another 6 months for the glue to build again. The second lot are still insitu and have been in about 6 months.

Henni my DS grew out of the problem. He is 7 now. Has 2 lots of grommets it total but has recently been pronounced to have perfect hearing and glue free ears, without grommets!

And he doesn't have the osteopathy anymore either.

Hope that is encouraging.

Thanks Shiny, she's 7 just after christmas and has had a massive, massive growth spurt (is now in 9-10 clothes), so here's hoping that she will be discharged after five whole years of 6 monthly visits!
