Tennis elbow?

FinishWhatWeStarted · 27/10/2021 19:47

I've been having some issues with my right elbow for a few months now.
It started out where my grip was weaker if I was picking something up with my right hand, some pain in the elbow and I thought I had pulled something. Couldn't quite work out if the pain was in my elbow or arm or hand.
I was chatting to someone at work who started nodding when I described it. She asked if the elbow ever 'locked' which it did and then described almost word for word what she had and that she was diagnosed with tennis elbow.
From what I've read it needs rest but apart from working in a job that's physical and ramping up to Christmas I've three small children and a dog so I'm busy a lot of the time.
It's just not feasible for me to 'rest it' at the moment.
Is there anything else I can do other than pain relief? I feel like I'll be wasting the docs time and actually seeing them at the minute is almost impossible.
I've seen some supports online but they vary massively and one of them is just a strap.
Any help would be great fully received Smile

I've got it and I have a strap that I wear underneath my elbow, a friend recommended it, I think they work by taking some of the strain from the muscle that would otherwise be directed into the elbow. There are also various exercises online if you Google mainly seem to be moving hand with arm straight.

It's a nuisance though, it can take a while to go.

If you go to the GP, they'll print off some exercises and tell you take ibuprofen. When I asked about actually finding out what was causing the issue and treating that, I got told that ibuprofen is the treatment and a withering look

Following with interest. I have the same thing, a physio at my gym diagnosed it on the fly but I an't afford seeing him.

I had it years ago and another colleague, occupational cause. It's true ibruprophen is treatment as caused by inflammation. Or ice or heat bag whichever feels more soothing. It will go eventually but took many months. There is a special splint you can buy, just Google Tennis Elbow splint, my colleague used one and seemed to think helped reduce the pain. I couldn't as needed to be bare below the elbows on the wards.

Do you use a computer with a mouse a lot? If so, get a vertical mouse. It helps a lot.

It's basically a form of RSI. I got it from vacuuming 😆
I used a strap which went on my fore arm which did ease the pain and took the pressure off the tendon/joint or whatever was inflamed. Took a bit of time to find best position and tightness to help but once I'd cracked that the strap helped immensely during the day. I found some exercises on the internet which also helped. It went over a period of weeks rather than days.

I had it a few years ago and it was so painful that it was keeping me awake at night so I went to my GP. He suggested trying acupuncture. I was really dubious and to be honest a bit scared of the whole needle thing but I was in so much pain I decided to give it a go. I had 3 sessions and although it seemed to get worse before it got better by the third session I was almost pain free. A few weeks after that I had no pain at all.

I had that a while ago. The physio recommended one of those straps and I was surprised to find it helps a lot. She also advised exercises - like these:
