My sister has gone in to have her hysterectomy today, just wondered how long they normally take from start to finish. I'm not even sure what time they was taking her to theatre. I'm rambling arent I.

Just feel a little on edge not knowing whats going on and she wouldnt let any of us go with her.

About an hour - but add quite a bit more for being taken down, and recovery can keep them up to a further hour. The ward might be able to tell you when she went down. I hope all is straightforward for her.

I rang the hosptal and they said she was in theatre, bit worried that she has been in theatre for over 2 hours!! All I can think is that they tried to do it the way they wanted to (vaginally) and have ended up having to do it a different way.

"in theatre" often means "not on the ward" - and includes in recovery too... so don't write off her chances yet!

If they examined her and said they thought they could do it vaginally, they almost certainly will be able to.

it can take a long time for people to come round sometimes - perfectly normal and ok - just lengthy

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 11/12/2007 14:49

actually I was thinking of one particular friend there - and she had a hysterectomy - any news yet?

no not yet, have just got in from school run, and was told to ring the ward after 3 so will give them a ring shortly.

I hope your sister's operation went well, she should be comfortable on the morphine now-I slept on and off for hours on it after my op this year.

NineWurlysDancing · 11/12/2007 21:05

she was brought back to the ward at about 5pm so obviously there was some problems somewhere, which I'm sure we will be informed about more when she is more alert. Nurses have just said that she is comfortable.

i'm glad she's out, nine.

NineWurlysDancing · 12/12/2007 09:43

apparently her blood pressure dropped very low and that was what caused most of the delay as she was in recovery for ages (hence not getting on to the ward til 5'oclock). Thanks all for your concern

Glad things are looking positive.

ninewurlysdancing · 14/12/2007 11:11

she has text this morning saying that they are letting her home today so my nephew is going up on his lunch break with a friend to go pick her up and then go back to work for a couple of hours.
