High TBilirubin

I had to go to A&E recently for something snd whilst there they did some blood tests. They sent them to me and it all looked ok except the TBilirubin blood test result which was highlighted and said;

TBilirubin 22 (H)

I called up my doctors but was met with a 3 line whip who said it wasn’t an emergency and to go online and fill in a form asking for a chat with a doctor.

Is this something I need to address urgently? I’m 52 and thought I was very fit and healthy. I have noticed I’ve got yellow eyes but thought it was because I am aging, have dry eyes and don’t drink much water.

Might be Gilberts syndrome, which is a benign condition in which if you are unwell or under the weather, your bilirubin goes up slightly? The other liver enzymes are unaffected. I have Gilberts syndrome, and if I'm unwell, this can happen to me.

I also have Gilberts Syndrome. Liver function tests are often all over the place - drs get very het up but 6 months later they've returned to normal.

What should I do about it?

I called up my doctors. There is a 5-minute answer machine that has been on there for a year saying due to Covid, Staff sickness, and shortages, there is a long wait and only urgent cases seen. Then I stuck with it and got through to a receptionist who said it wasn't urgent and I had to go online and fill out a form and they would get back to me.

I did have to go to my "super surgery" a while ago for a smear test and there were only 2 people in the waiting room that sits 50.

Is this something I need to urgently push?

I take it all back. I have just got a message saying I have a telephone call with a doctor later today.

Blush

What Q's should I be asking? Should I ask for more tests? I am with Bupa. Should I go that route?

No one really gives two hoots about Gilbert's, if it's that.

Nothing to ask or do really.

You don’t need Bupa. If it’s Gilbert’s (and it sounds like it is) it’s nothing to worry about. In our hospital I think the top of the normal range for Bilirubin is 21, so it’s not really high.
